This is honestly the first time I can remember not seeing a lot of talk on the Highlands thread. Maybe people are just waiting to see what they have before they make and judgements, or maybe there are a lot of unknowns. But, I do know Highlands has to sure up their defense if they want to get back to being Highlands.

 

Who seems to be the front runner at QB for the Birds?

 

Expect the Defense to be much improved now that Weinrich has gone back to that side of the ball. I am betting the senior has the leg up on the QB position, but that is not etched in stone. Also expect a handful of guys to see action on both sides of the ball this year, FINALLY. Depth to me would be the biggest concern. They have one of the top receivers in the area, but have to be able to get him the ball. Dunn will anchor the line on both sides of the ball hopefully.

I think most fans are just holding their breath until the Cooper game... That night will answer a lot of questions... it's maybe the biggest game of coach W's career.

Yes, it is a down year for Cooper, so expectations are the birds should dominate them. On a bigger point, fans are looking for "changes" such as guys going both ways and stronger defensive game plan. no matter who they are playing, the first game will tell a lot.

Campbell County and Scott County will be a test for them.

I'd say the first 9 games will be tough getting a win. However, I also think they have a decent chance to pull out any of them other than Ryle and SC.

Cooper has lost a lot to graduation the past two years, but I wouldn't say it is a down year for the Jags. They will be young, but talented. There is a solid core of returning starters and kids that had valuable playing time to mix well with the new comers. It is definitely not a game that Highlands should "dominate." Randy Borchers has built to good of a program at Cooper to expect that to happen

In my opinion yes. He pulled a lot of the strings behind the scenes.

Not sure why anyone would think Highlands would dominate Cooper. Yes Cooper has a lot of young guys but I just came from a 7 on 7 with SK going against Cooper and they held there own and they were missing one of their best defensive players safety Schlarmem. WR Dillon Perry and Jerimah Lee dominated the SK defense.
