The lesser known teams don't get a lot of love on the boards. We know the big guys, but who could pull off this year's shocker and why? We have had some big upsets in the first round the last couple years.

 

2016 - South Laurel over Christian County

2015 - Calloway County over Knott County Central

2014 - McCracken County over Wayne County

 

Region 1 seems to have a knack for pulling the upset, in fact they have won the first round the past 4 years (which is the longest winning streak of any region.)

How what are we basing upsets on? Records entering the tournament or BGP rankings or something else?

BGP Rankings would be a good place to start. But I guess its more opinion based.

 

Ex. Fern Creek or Hopkinsville winning wouldn't be an upset.

 

Ex. Graves County defeating Bowling Green...absolutely even though both are ranked in BGP top 20.

Graves County, Pulaski County, Meade County and Taylor County are the only teams that I would consider it an upset if they won.

 

I think Pulaski County and Taylor County have the best chances to win of these four teams.

 

I wouldn't be surprised if any of these teams won their game.

 

If I had to choose just one to win my choice would be Pulaski County.

 

Taylor County and Graves County are both very intriguing to me for some reason.

Fern Creek will play Ballard (most likely) in the 2nd round...one of those two will likely play Cooper in the semi's.

History says there will be at least one upset in the first round.

New territory for Fern Creek, we'll see if they're ready for the big stage! I'm skeptical!

This is one of the better years for first round and potential second round games. Hope that it doesn't affect the back end of the tourney.
