statman
This will probably sound like sour grapes, but food for thought... Beechwood defeated Meade by 16 in the City of Middletown Classic in December. statman
Kind of wondered why they were Jekyll and Hyde during the season...started 8-1, went 1-19 until the District and 4-1 since.

gchs_uk9
And Meade is 13-21 this season, but as they say...Survive and Advance I know injuries played a role, but Meade County is going to the state tournament with the worst record in history. 2011 - Shelby Valley (13-17) 1984 - Scott County (13-16) 2000 - Mercer County (15-17) 1987 - Rowan County (15-16) 1947 - Male (9-10) 1938 - Harlan (10-11) 1939 - Breckinridge Training (12-12) 1989 - Oldham County (16-16) However...they are going to state! ApolloFan98
This was a heck of a game. Daviess County came out of the gates playing about as well as they could play. They led by as many as 11 in the first half. Meade made a little run just before halftime to cut the lead to 6 heading in the locker room. In the 2nd half, Meade came out swinging cutting the DC lead to 2 before County settled in and pushed the lead back to 10. At that point, it felt like it was just going to be the Panthers night. They hit 9 3's total in the game, and it just looked like they weren't going to be denied. They were up 8 with around 1 minute left in the 3rd and continued to attack. It backfired, however, as they turned it over on 3 straight trips giving Meade 3 easy run out baskets to close the 4th, cutting the lead to 2. It was nip and tuck the rest of the way, but the momentum had really swing toward the Waves. Meade pulled ahead by 3 on 2 James Baker FT's with 24 seconds left, but Blake Boswell knocked down a big time 3 to tie it with 10 seconds remaining. Meade got the ball in to Baker without any hesitation, and Baker went coast to coast, drawing a foul with 2 seconds left. Baker drained them both. DC proceeded to throw a full court pass to Dakota Walden who got of a turn around 3 at the horn, but it hit off the side of the backboard. Meade wins their first ever 3rd region title. I believe its their 2nd trip to the sweet 16, as they won the 5th region back in 1984. My heart breaks for DC, as it felt like the game was theirs to lose and they just let it get away from them in the final minute of the 3rd. Coach Hayden did a great job with the Panthers this year. After they lost Stewart Currie and Andrew Hayden(about 75% of their scoring from last year), I never expected DC to be this good. Boswell, Owen and Boling all were tremendous in the post season. For those of us up north, can anyone give us a little info on Meade County? Who to look out for, etc.?
statman
...but when they have the Brown kid according to other threads, they are a much different team. A much better team. I don't see a young man named Brown on their roster, possibly Baker? If so, Baker's line against the Tigers was 1-7 FG, 1-2 FT, 3 points, 4 rebounds, 2 blocks, 1 steal in 18 minutes of play. cardfan01
I believe that Baker had 11 points last night and never really got on track offensively. Last night, Aiden Matthews and Chezney Weick (two 6'4" forwards) carried the team to the win. Those two kids are very talented and showed that there is much more to this team than just Baker. I totally agree that MC doesn't make it this far without Baker, but they do have other very capable players. I realize that they lost a bunch of games without Baker, but they played a brutal schedule and the coaches had a tough time figuring out how to rework the game plan when so much was geared around Baker. To fill out the starting five, Dakota Clayton is a steady senior guard who never gets rattled and Noah Schwartz is a streaky offensive player who can put a lot of points on the board in a short period of time. Long story short, MC does have some pieces. With Baker in the lineup, you have another steady ball handler and opposing teams can't focus all of their attention on him (that's one of the biggest things he brings to the table). Congrats to Meade County!
dognation2
Absolutely congrats to MC and their improbable run. Mainly Baker, kid has been through a lot this year. I'm sure he envisioned something different than sitting out most of his senior campaign with an injury. Very humble kid....With that being said; Cooper is gonna roll MC in Rupp. MC has some gritty kids that play very hard; but they have no where near the talent that Cooper is bringing. I don't think MC has and elite scorer to cause Cooper any worry on the defensive end. If they do running clocks at Rupp; this might be one
