Pulaski County 69 Mercer County 55 (12th Region Championship)

Featured Replies

Mercer County coach Kurt Young was named coach of the year, and perhaps rightfully so, but he absolutely needed to take a timeout or two in the first quarter and he didn't. Pulaski took an insurmountable lead while Mercer was running around aimlessly with no direction. When PC went up 15-2 and he still hadn't called one, I knew Mercer was in trouble.

Couldn't agree more. A few questions I have and maybe someone more in the know could answer. Did Mercer make any adjustments other than going to a 2-2-1 half court defense halfway thru the 4th Qtr? Did Mercer ever run a play the entire night? In the post above it was said that no other Titan scored in double figures and 10 players played. Was Drakeford sick or hurt? He had 9 in the 1st half against Rockcastle and never played again the rest of the tournament.

For those that attended these games, just how bad were the refs. Listening to a few games and seeing some comments on Facebook, it seemed like they were nearly incompetent.

Not one sided, but just bad.

That's just it. They were not the best in the world to say the least, but they're human.

To the point on Mercer running any sort of offense, the answer is no. I think their game plan game in and game out was to pressure, create turnovers, and capitalize off the turnovers with fast break points. Once you contain Mercer in the half court, the ball sticks quite a bit unless the ball is in Faulkners hands. Would like to see them run more sets to free up Faulkner to where he doesn't have to dribble drive it into traffic everytime down the court.

Mercer just wasn't efficient enough offensively to really ever get their pressure going. I would like to see paint #'s for PC. Their overall team size was really the biggest factor throughout the whole tournament.

I thought it was consistently poor for the whole tournament.

I didn't have any major issues with the refs. They missed calls which is normal and to be expected and they made some weird calls which is to be expected. We did have on Blarge call during the tournament so that was a treat. They let a lot of physical play go, especially for teams that press aggressively, and would then call a touch foul. They called more blocking fouls than charges so I LOVED that and I felt like when they did call a charge they made the right call. Except for when Grayson flopped last night but he sold it perfectly. :lol2: I've seen worse refs and while I agree they were consistently inconsistent I never felt like they determined the outcome of any of the games and for me at the end of the day, that is my only concern.

Sounds like decent officiating....BTW we had the pleasure of meeting up with the 12th region officials in the 5th region tourney. There were 66 free throws attempted in the semi-final game between JH and Adair County....there were no biases and it was just one ref...just inconsistent; it affected the outcome/competitive nature of the game. He wouldn't even allow the players to ask what they were doing wrong.
