Frozen pizza preparation

Featured Replies

Have you ever noticed that pretty much all frozen pizza manufacturers recommend you cook their pizzas directly on the oven rack, with no pan?

In what world is it a good idea to have cheese and sauce melting down on your oven burners? Does anybody actually do this silly thing?

My theory: Frozen pizza producers are in a cabal with oven manufacturers to try and ruin your ovens as quickly as possible so that the life of your oven is very, very short. My guess is there's some symbiotic money being exchanged on this one.

We hardly ever have frozen pizza, but if I do I definitely put it straight on the rack. Only way to get a solid crispy edge on the crust.

Good thing you don't do frozen pizza often. No way I would do that. And you can get the edges crispy in a pan. Just adjust the heat lower and leave it in a bit longer than recommended.

Straight on the rack for us too...never have an issue with it.

We have one of those crisper pans we out them on.

Do you swap out stoves much faster than you'd like? Cleaning up burnt-on cheese is no fun.

Never have cheese issue. Maybe you shouldn't put them in upside down! :D

I've done this enough to know if it would be an issue. I've never once had cheese get on the inside of my stove from a frozen pizza.

We used to eat frozen pizza often but it has been several years since we had one. I will say the quality of frozen pizza has improved tremendously over the years. DiGiorno was our pizza of choice when we were still buying frozen pizza.

I have never cooked one directly on the rack. For those that do, I am assuming there is a noticeable difference?

Had a pizza stone back in the day. That thing was money.

^^^^ Jim's Oven!

Not mine, but I've seen a lot of far less talented cooks pull a similar maneuver.

And the frozen pizza I cooked in a pan earlier came out perfect. Nice and crispy on the crust.

A large preheated cast iron skillet makes great pizza crust.
