Question: Anyone know why game between Southwestern and Mercer was cancelled?

Featured Replies

Because nobody knows who or how many more has it. You can be contagious even before symptoms hit. No need for either team to spread it further.

Good thing they are in a 3 team district. They get a whole week to get some pedialyte in and get some rest and recovery before the real games start. :D

Side note:

Did I hear correctly that Trevon Faulkner is now Mercer County's all time leading scorer and has over 2,000 points?

All I know for sure is that the fans missed out on what I feel was the game of the year in the 12th. Maybe the basketball Gods will show favor and they'll meet in the region

He is over 2000, I think it is 2032, but I'm not sure. Does that # put him past Will Hager?

Trevon had 1351 points coming into the year, unless my calculations are wrong and 681 this season, for a 2032 total

Looks like Trevon is now Mercer's all time leading scorer. Will Hager finished with 1909

Yes. He passed Will Hager for sure. I saw the video clip and heard leading scorer and thought I heard them say he has over 2,000 points but wasn't sure.

Covington Catholic moved their Senior Night up due to not wanting to get to the last game and having a weather/sickness/other issue. I believe you'll start seeing more schools do it.

Baseball teams do this all the time (obviously weather is a big issue there). I saw a team do senior night on a Saturday two weeks ago and another senior night on a Friday night even though they had two more home games. I think setting aside a night late (but not at the end) of the season is a pretty good way to do it.

SW has 7 kids confirmed with the flu and who knows how many others would or will be coming down with it. Mercer did not want it spread to their team either. Not classless at all smart by both teams.

Mercer missed two or three days of school the week before due to illness throughout their district. I'm guessing now that they are getting healthy they probably didn't want to invite that trouble back in. It would, however, have been nice to get a replacement game.

Who did Hager pass last year? Joe White? Or is this one of those things where they're only counting records since they merged with Harrodsburg?

Somerset had so many missing they were struggling to find enough Subs to fill in for teachers, they now have cancelled school for Monday (yes they were scheduled Monday). I'm sure County schools here have been hit just as hard.

The warmer weather and lack of snow days, while nice, has actually done quite a number on schools. Typically those illnesses die down a bit and schools miss several days for bad weather. This year the students have been bunched together for weeks without missing and that has, in my opinion, led to a larger than normal amount of sickness.

Schools need to have jugs of Purell in each room and encourage the kids and teachers to use some every time they enter a room.

Only counting numbers since the merger.

When district tournaments are canceled because of sickness then I'll be sympathetic. Until then it strikes me as a convienent excuse.
