2006 Darkhorses/Under Appreciated Teams

Featured Replies

Just providing the numbers to back you up:

Since 1999, when the northern Kentucky teams began playing Louisville-area teams in the postseason, the NKY teams are 10-19 overall in such games. Taking Trinity out of the equation, their record is a more respectable 9-9 ... except that the NKY team is the higher seed and playing at home in most of those games.

NKY was swept in the first round 2001 and 2003 ... only in the latter year, when Seneca and Ballard were also consensus top-10 teams, was District 5 all that strong. In most years, District 5 is usually not as strong as the other district in town.

I figured it was something along those lines. Our district is by no means a powerful district. Without us there it is fairly unremarkable. In fact in 2003 I think a case could be made that for the first time in a long time our district was the tougher one with Trinity, Ballard and Seneca as good as they were. Additionally Southern was pretty good that year as well as was Shelby County.

In class 2A I would say that the darkhorse is Breathitt County. This young bobcat team has already made a statement with the beating of Harlan County at Harlan. People are now noticing these young bobcats, they only have 4 seniors but the 4 they have are some great athletes. Becham Herald is one of the mountains best running backs and Casey Allen is one of the best o-linemen. The Bobcats have a couple good games left, one is aginst Leslie at Leslie and another aginst Middleboro at home. But i give the edge to Breathitt in both games. Watch out of the young bobcats, they will be causing some problumes for someone if they overlook the bobcats.

I don't think 19-7 is what i would call a beating.

Class A's Fulton City Bulldogs 5-0 on the season, could this be the Hoosier story of KY HS Football? This is one of the states smallest football playing schools. They are averaging 41 points a game while allowing 9.2 per game. The most points they have given up this year is 14 and their closest game was a 30-8 win.

Yeah, but when Reidlands your toughest game, that not's saying much

A true dark horse in Class A is Bethlehem. They just knocked off Louisville Holy Cross and have dispatched their other opponents with ease. They in all likelihood will be undefeated when they play Bardstown on Oct. 27th. If they play at their peak, Bethlehem has enough individual athletes to compete with Bardstown, and they competed with Danville last year in the first round and got everybody back. A few bounces and good breaks here and there and it is not outside the realm of possibility for them to be playing in a region championship game.

They most likely will be undefeated when Bardstown comes calling, but, that's when reality will set in...

I agree, I don't think they will beat the Tigers, but they probably have a better shot than any other team until region.

ok here i go... i think that valley is one of the darkest horses theyve went 5 and 0 and got a chance to go 8-2 7-3 and they will be gettin better so who know maybe 5-2 9-1 next year.

You need to designate to which "valley" you refer...I think you mean "Shelby Valley" (maybe it's better to use "SV" as its short form).

There is a "Valley High School" in Jefferson Co. that's been around a LONG time. (IMO, that gives them dibs on the "Valley" short form)

:bunny:

Shelby Valley has played:

Phelps

Matewan, WV

Pike Central

Midland Trail, WV

East Ridge

Not that Impressive...
