Herbstreit Challenge: Ohio vs USA

Featured Replies

Has anyone else here been in attendance to a Kerry Coombs (Colerain head coach) coaching conference?

I really, really like the guy and his coaching perspective is awesome, IMO.

The GCL has got to be the best league in the USA....

I Know for sure that Derek Landri the starting NG at Notre Dame played for DeLaSalle during their run, I'm sure there were plenty others

Ohio Football made a statement this weekend.

Can someone help me with this. Even De LaSalle's unbeaten run of what 150 or so games, how many major D-I players did they have. Can someone give me some names?

Wildcat, Swamprat, or anyone else in the know, I've heard great things about both their speed year in and year out and their disicipline. Are they the fastest HS team you've seen, and are the best coached HS team you've seen? Thanks.

According to the summary in the Program, no Div I recruits, but they have a lot of very, very good high school football players.

Overall, they are the fastest 22 high school players I have seen; they have enough size to match up with anyone, and it is easy to see they have been in the weight room. All of their pre-game drills with the lineman were of the athletic variety; they did a lot of pulling drills where they were running 15-20 yards every time; the linemen even did 40 yard sprints where they started out at about 50% and increased to 100% all out sprinting.

De La Salle-disciplined, very quick, split-back veer-very good, excellent passing game, tough-fast-disciplined on defense, excellent special teams(1 TD)-49-12 over Elder at the end of the 3rd qtr- they are for real & no big time DI recruits

Lakeland vs. De La Salle- pick 'em

So, you are also saying St. X could have played a very close game Vs De La Salle? Have you seen Colerain play this year? Could they, or even Lou St. X have made a game out of it Vs De La Salle?

First off, Colerain won 28-0, not 27-12. That was reported on tonybianco.com but that is incorrect. That was the score last year when Colerain beat Lee (Tyler, TX). It was Colerain's 3rd shutout in a row.

As for Colerain beating Delasalle...no way, no how. We make too many mistakes and they just don't...period.

I saw all 6 games in Cincy and let me tell you, Delasalle is as lethal a team as I've ever seen. They are like a friendly assassian. They just strolled out onto the field for warmups looking like (and don't take this personally) a D3 team from KY or IN. The warmups weren't over impressive. No loud yelling, no posturing, no nothing. Very laid back.

Then the whistle blew. When they started playing, I knew Elder had no shot. They went up 14-0 and I looked at my buddy and said,"It's over. Let's go home." He laughed and said Elder would make a game of it.

We left at halftime.

De La Salle's website has their College and NFL players. Armani Toomer (NYG), Maurice Drew (JAX - R) are two in the NFL that I know of. Also, there are several D1 players but what I saw Saturday night, they don't have many. Also, they had about 5 or 6 guys go both ways. Also, the TE, Inside LB, was also the kicker for the PAT and Kickoffs. They only travel about 50 or less and size wise, no one was massive or impressive but they are the quickest team off the line of scrimmage I've ever seen, at any level. I am sure the D line for Elder would agree.

Thank you for your information. I kind of thought De La Salle football had built a better team, you don't win 151 in a row by luck. Best of luck to all the teams that played this weekend. What a great event.

What about the Colerain team of two years ago? I am not saying just beat DeLaSalle, but make a game of it. But then again, I guess it doesn't matter what anyone thinks, as many thought Moeller wouldn't be in their game.

Colerain 2004? Oh, that's a different story.

Colerain 2004 was the best High School team I've ever seen in person and I've seen some unbelievable teams.

04 Colerain - 42

06 DeLasalle - 14

Haven't seen Colerain this season; I do understand they are throwing it some this season, so that would help; but Cardinalsfan seems to be in teh know.

St. X would definitely make a game of it; it would be interesting to see how X's size would affect De La Salle.

Cincy X yes; Louisville X no.

Thanks for the help with De la Salle.

Based on what I've gathered and seen from the Cincy schools, X's size wouldn't bother De La Salle much. Elder is plenty big and physical, and it didn't faze the California team.

X's advantage over Elder is speed and athleticisim. And the fact they just have better players.

That said, i can't imagine there's a team in the country that X and Colerain couldn't play with.
