The (3) 8th graders will ALL continue to play hoops thru HS, as long as they are healthy for certain.

Having the frosh hoops coach Franzen leave for Cov Cath (I think) - after he coached these kids all summer - that certainly did not help this team chemistry etc.

And big, talented Salter, bouncing around between JV/Frosh.. he just joined the Frosh team after other player's departure. Net, these kids have never played together as close unit - and it shows.

I can't comment on sets or framework - don't really know the personnel/skillsets or the coaching strategies/framework moving forward.

"for certain" at this time.

You lose Ahfeld, IMO, the best BBall player of the group, and Huddy, your best athlete, you will have hiccups. The pieces are there to mesh in with the group ahead and behind them to have a good 9th region team the next two or three seasons.

So why play AAU basketball if you are not going to play for your high school? Makes zero sense.

Did other kid leave because the path to the QB spot at HHS was blocked or did he move because that is where family was at? Find it odd that you attend HMS and 1 semester at HHS and then all of a sudden decide to move near family in Boone County. Hopefully this is not one of those situation where things do not go one's way so we move to the next place and so on and so on. High school over and kid has been at 3 or 4 schools "searching" for that opportunity.

Why does that make zero sense? If you enjoy the sport, but don't want to commit to the high school workload to focus on another sport, why is that a problem? We crush kids for not playing multiple sports, and then say this when a 14 year old takes a different approach to enjoying his athletic experience? I don't understand that.

If you "enjoy" it like I really think he does then you play it. What is the high school workload you talk about?

I am not railing on the kid at all. Just tired of reading it as an excuse for why this or that happened. Kid made his decision and that is the end of that.

So again, has this team struggled this year? Do you know what their record is at this point in the season?

B.J. Aldridge I believe or maybe it is P.J.

Big loss to the program with Ben Franzen leaving to go and coach at CovCath. Guy was good with the kids and parents and new his stuff on the basketball court.

Must have been desperation hire for Highlands. Has to just be interim.

You know what the high school workload is. You lose 2 hours/day or more 5 days a week to practice and games/travel. That's, obviously, a different beast than practicing once or twice a week and playing on the weekends. You said it makes zero sense. I was taking the approach that the logic makes perfect sense to me, if that is indeed his reasoning. I have no clue what went behind the decision.

I have no clue if they are struggling, or what the record was. When you lose to a Beechwood team that you have beaten every game the past 3 years, then that is a hiccup.

Losing Coach Franzen from the program was a major setback. With that said nobody should get too excited about freshman basketball wins and losses.

Agreed Qryche11.

Someone was asking about how they were doing record-wise...I suspect they are close to 500 - I believe they have won a few more games than they have lost but as Qryche11 pointed out - it's clear this admin/coach is NOT 110% focused on doing anything/everything to get the W. He really tries to get a variety of lineups PT both in games and practices...and that too - may be a little odd for kids that have never sat on a bench prior.

Okay, so are you trying to say the coach does not play to win because too many guys get playing time? That the three 8th graders should start and play every minute even though it has been said that at least 2 of them will not be suiting up in future years? Who are these kids that should not be getting ANY playing time? I saw a kid sit last night for the entire game when they were getting it handed to them. How does one explain that? Is the goal of frosh basketball to win at all costs or is it about development because you never know what kids will be there a few years down the road and which ones will not.

Totally different team for Beechwood than the last few years. The bulk of the playing time is being played by four very good 8th graders.

No sorry i don't mean to imply any kid should be playing over anyone...ever. And not here to criticize - just share a few of my observations since i've attended a few ballgames...

My impression watching a few practices and consistent rotation of players during games is that - he respects the parody and kids and luvs-on as many as possible including weaving kids in and out of rotations and lineups and that is just very hard to pull off - the juggling of lineups during games - with a 3rd grade team or a 9th grade team. IMO, challenging to compete, night in and out, at the highest level vs. GOOD competition or perhaps a team of 5-7 that has played together for many months - and they know they are not coming out of the game...(confidence).

OK - just posting an observation - really not great at debate :)
