January 17, 20179 yr Words do not always equal actions. Up to this point it appears not. WE will see. To be fair, basically all we have so far from Mr. Trump are words. He's not been in a position to actually act on anything regarding Russia.
January 17, 20179 yr The quote in the article is overstated, but Trump's interview this weekend reaffirmed his absurdist position re: Russia. 1) NATO is "obsolete." 2) "Doesn't matter" if EU falls apart. 3) Talks about ending sanctions against Russia. None of these positions benefit the United States. All of them benefit Russia. Why? For the record on point 2 there are many in the finance world like me who agree with it. The EU is a failed experiment.

I don't believe Trump is some sort of cosmopolitan who hopes to bring peace through trade, especially when he's constantly invoking tariffs and "America first" trade policies. I also don't believe the Trump team believe sanctions are ineffective in general, as they've advocated re-sanctioning Iran. So what gives here? Why lay down for Russia, of all countries, and throw Europe to the sharks while we're at it?

I go back-and-forth and maybe it's an oversimplification but Mr. Trump just really seems to suffer from tons of insecurities. These insecurities really manifest themselves when dealing with "traditional masculine traits". He has shown this with his infatuation with the size of his hands, his sexual prowess, how big a wall he can build, and so forth. I think in Putin; Trump sees someone who is overtly "manly" and "tough". Trump through his insecurities admires those traits and that's what leads to his position on Putin and Russia as a whole.
January 20, 20179 yr I agree China is going to be the challenging piece of the puzzle. For most of the EU including Russia, save Great Britain and Poland...with friends like those, who needs enemies? They are friends only when it suits their own interests, and they are wolves in sheeps clothing, but luckily, other than Russia, they don't have the means to make more trouble.

As long as we are not in a trade deficit like china it's a smart ploy. Turn an enemy into a economic ally. Suddenly you can work things out... Money always talks louder.

February 10, 20179 yr I am a heck of a lot more worried about him tickling off China than any other country. Those guys can match us in everything. He is ticking them off badly. As to our allies in NATO, we have the upper hand in may ways. He will back off once he knows they realize that. What is China going to do? Swim over here and poke us with bamboo? The days of nations going after nations is over for the most part. Its the secular, regligious, idiotic groups that need to be worried about.
