JV game.

I didn't see anything. Whatever happened was after the release as my sequence ended before any contact. I turned to see basket or rebound.

Just saw HHS Coach yelling about contact as the action moved to the other end of the court.

 

Coach was up and down his bench-line the whole game "coaching". You can see their bench basically at the line.

So I'll go with accidental contact until game video shows something different.

So you are saying there was Contact? What's your version?

 

I heard it happened in the JV... I wasn't there so I have no version other than it wasn't in the freshman game

So did 12 Jump backwards after his shot as a natural reaction to start heading down court and they bumped into each other?

 

I'm not familiar w/ coaching boxes/sidelines in BBall. Seems like most courts have players sitting fairly close to the out line so that coaches would have to walk on the floor to go down the bench. Does this type of contact happen often as a result? I'd think that it could.

Proof only that there wasn't contact during the 3pt shot and the coach very close.

Doesn't prove/disprove anything in the seconds before or after.

 

Is there a written or unwritten rule on where the coach should/shouldn't be in cases where the space is limited? Does it matter if the ball is on that side of the court?

There is a "box" but rarely do coaches stay in it. My guess if there was contact, unless it was done purposely, then interference? Idk if that's even a rule. But if he had blatantly pushed the kid im sure there would have been did a yelling immediately. I can't see him purposely pushing a kid.

That's my guess, the kid backed into him and it appeared he may have been pushed.

I was not there yet, so only relaying what was described to me. Apparently there was some other "issue" as well as the JV team was still pressing when up by 30 points.

I tagged the pictures above right after I saw the coach yelling about contact so that I could look at them later.

Nothing was visible in camera at the time, and nothing once I got them onto the computer.

This was the only play that I saw where anyone complained about contact in that way.

I suppose there could be another...

I can tell you it wasn't the freshman. I left after that game. It was the JV, just to clear it up

I believe this was due to the contact. Highlands JV assistant coach was livid and saw something he didnt like. I know him and he doesnt typically even raise his voice but he had to see something.

Contact with coaches working in front of their benches happens often with players and officials and typically in transition situations.

 

In defense of this coach, based on the pics, he couldn't have known the kid was going to put up a shot when he did, there does not appear to be contact during the play, and if the shooter drifted after the shot in transition, no big deal.

 

From a pure rules standpoint, the coaching box is not on the playing surface, so if the coach is "out of the box" and anything occurs that involves that, it needs to be officiated, but not necessarily as an infraction.

 

Preventive officiating once again should prevail in this case...if there was contact that didn't involve the play, a simple reminder to the coach is usually the better choice.
