To me that is what made the great teams of the 90's at LC. We never hoped to win and always expected to win. There was a swagger and an intemidation factor. I think JC is playing that way right now. They expect too win. That is what the good programs do. You have to remember that as bad as people think LC has been.... they have taken teams like Belfry in their title run down to the last play of the game. If they win a couple of those then who knows what happens!

What has happened to LC the past 5 years. They have been terrible. I can remember when LC was good year in and year out. Then the old asst. and head coach from East Carter (not McPeek) became an LC assistant and LC's old coach who had been successful in the past arrived. I assumed that the team would show no ill effects, but as I stated before they have been flat terrible since then. Do the kids not like the coaches or are the coaches afraid of making someone mad and don't practice them as hard as in the past? I do know that in the past one coach was really bad for becoming buddies with certain players and showing favortism (is this the problem)? I'm not trying to make anyone mad, I PROMISE!!! Just wanting in on some facts from Louisa! I know that football used to be everything in Louisa and I don't see how that could change. Every kid has had an uncle, cousin, brother, etc.. that has been a bulldog and has war stories to share. Usually this passion passes on to each generation but I guess all good things do come to an end!!! Good luck to each team and may the best team win!!!!!

 

 

 

The coach that you are refering to is Joey Cecil, I know one thing for sure none of the problems that Lawrence has had is this man's fault. Joey is a class act that does things the right way. He is a tremendous football coach that all the players truly love. Not to mention he was the defensive coordinator during McPeek's 1st year a 11-1 season. He is the type of guy that you would want your son to play for. So that dawg won't hunt.

 

Goldsmith on the other hand........lets just say he is not the coach that he was in the late 80's, I am not so sure that is it or is it the schedule that they are playing now compared to then. Back then they played both Carter County schools, paintsville, raceland, lewis county. Not exactly the toughest schedule in the world. He seems like a good guy, just not very consistent from week to week.

Has the point been reached in Louisa where bringing back Coach Williams has been considered ??

 

He was the most successful coach at Lawrence, IMO. True, he burned a number of bridges there (as he has most places), but his system worked EXTREMELY well for the Bulldogs.

 

(If he were offered, I think he'd do it in a heartbeat. Heck, he might even be able to talk Coach Burchett into coming with him to work the defense)

JC shouldnt have to go away from there bread and butter and that is smash mouth football. In all LC games they have been torched on the ground. This game should be no different with JC being able to use 4 or 5 solid backs throughout the game. The defense of JC should have its way with a inexperienced LC o-line and i see one player on the JC defense playing with alot of emotion from beginning to end. Like Ive said before, LC's weaknesses are JC's strengths, and that is why I believe this game will get ugly in a hurry.

I will agree with you 100% about coach Cecil my son as played for him and I know him very well he's a great guy . And thier's no one on the staff that has more passion for the game then he does you would have to come to practice and just set back and watch him work with the kids yes he gets loud sometimes but he know's thier's more in them then they do and he just try's to get it out of them and yes he does things the right way . He doesn't just coach these young men I know during the off season he stays after school and helps the one's that need help in the class room this is on his own time now guys if nothing else this should mean more to the parents of the ball players then any thing . I am very proud to know him and I'm thankfull for him being part of my son's life on the field and in the class room .:thumb:

I did NOT mean to step on toes. Believe me...I KNOW how much Lawrence Co. wants a winner. As a matter of fact, the Bulldogs are one of my personal favs...and...I really like Coach Goldsmith, too.

 

Why I asked what I did earlier is to gauge whether sentiment to "win again" has increased to the point to where parents/fans are developing "selective memory" regarding the former coach I mentioned.

Regarding your retaliatory "jab"...

 

Coach D. doesn't get pressured too much over the not-up-to-par performance of the Blackcats over the past couple years. Everyone knew the talent pool would dip awhile after the '04 season's senior class graduated.

The fans with knowledge in Louisa know that too.:thumb: I don't think anybody thought this was going to be one of LC's best teams but they do have the potential to grow throughout the season and be a team to deal with in the playoffs. It's hard to lose the talent they have lost and go through the injuries they have gone through. The District games start a whole new season and they are the ones that count. I think JC is the clear cut favorite so it's way to early to judge. The pipeline is good in Louisa and those that care and understand that it's hard staying on top know that there is going to be brighter days. While I lost my last game ever at Pburg (there will always be a little bitterness there) I have the upmost respect for the program and only said that because you popped into this thread and I felt like you were stirring the pot a little. It's all good though. I actually coached last year with Jeremy Caudill an old Pburg boy:thumb: Coach Letton was also the defensive coordinator (who ironically beat me out of my last game). He was totally different than I thought he would be. GREAT guy and I feel lucky to call him a friend!

 

You can look at Johnson Central's rise and thank some of the Administration in the Board Office in Louisa. They have let good assistants leave left and right plus not bring guys in that they should have brought in. On JC's staff alone are: Glenn Reeves, Tony Burchett and Stuart Cook! All great guys that are great assets.

Like you said the coaches can only do so much. The Administration needs to do a better job of keeping hometown guys that love the program around. There is a whole new slew of guys that will be graduating college that need to be brought back to Louisa in the next few years starting with Dontae Wright who is starting OLB for Miami of Ohio. These guys love the program, love the kids, love the coaches there, love the community and know the game. It is a shame if the people hiring don't get them back there!

I can tell you too that the guys I listed all love and respect the coaches that are in there right now. There is always room to grow and get better. That goes for coaches, players and fans too. When push comes to shove winners roll up their sleeves and battle instead of turning their back and tucking their tail. It's easy to panic in tough times but thats not what I'm about at least. I've poured a lot of my heart and soul as a player and coach into the Lawrence Co program and still do as an Alum! Things will get better in Louisa... I have no doubt! The program means too much to too many people!

Fancy formations? Why wouldn't they stick to what's working?

L.C. by as many as they want! J.c. appears to be to weak and the dawgs will dominate them very easy.. the younger dawgs will have lots of playing time in this one..
