Belfry in itself is not even a true one stoplight town. That stoplight blinks yellow. LOL

 

It surprises a lot of people that Belfry is not an Independent School. County School all the way. I really never gave it much thought but there are not hardly any county schools that are named after a specific town or community.

 

Hopkinsville, Prestonsburg & Betsy Layne are the only ones other than Belfry that I can think of.

Truthfully, you can't call it a city at all. Just a small community that is part of the Pike Co government. A small dot on the map (but a big place in our hearts, lol)

 

I used "city" because I get ask "Where is that City" all the time here in the North ATL burbs when I am wearing my Belfry gear. I figured there may even be some in KY who think it must be a city or medium sized Town.

I always thought Allen Central was one of the most unique or odd school names in KY

 

Not Allen County,technically it is not in Allen KY, and the Central seemed absolutely unnecessary lol

 

Allen Central is in The Floyd County community of Eastern. The community of Allen though is part of the district.

Hopkinsville has some weird school stuff. That is also home to University Heights Academy without an University nearby haha. They also are one of the few districts that have a shared stadium in The Stadium of Champions

That is a great idea! Only curveball is McCracken County and BG did not renew the contract and I am anticipating they will play at PRP that Friday, but could be wrong.

There used to be tons of place name schools back in Pike County, consolidation has done away with it. Virgie, Dorton, Millard, Mullins, Johns Creek, Elkhorn City, Feds Creek, Hellier & over in Floyd County Wheelwright & McDowell & along with P-burg & Betsy Layne as you have mentioned.

Yep. Them and Christian use to be Independent and County, respectively. Then sometime in 60's, 70's, they merged into one school district.

 

There is another private school down there that if they ever started football (and, it's been talked about) would be an immediate player in Class A (IMO opinion anyway)...Heritage Christian Academy. It's about a mile or two down the road (if that) from the Stadium of Champions.

Far southern tip of Floyd County

If I am not mistaken, that school & McDowell were consolidated into South Floyd back in 1993. Ironically, South Floyd & Allen Central will be consolidated into Floyd Central beginning next school year.
