My Final All-Class Top 25

Featured Replies

I really wish that whatever the obsticals on both sides thatbis preventing BG and Trinity from playing would be cleared. The 2 most dominate programs in the state in recent years should be playing.

I have a hard time liking a ranking list that ignores head to head results.

Johnson Central ahead of Belfry? Corbin ahead of Mayfield?

Johnson Central and Belfry are as even as two teams can get. Johnson Central doubled the total yards of offense that Belfry had but the Pirates made more big plays in the red zone. Computer rankings have algorithms and once humans start injecting their judgment into the rankings, then you might as well go to a paper ballot system involving polling. I would switch Belfry and Johnson Central based on the head to head result, but I understand why computer rankings do not so.

A few years ago, Johnson Central dominated a Louisville Central team at home. Belfry beat Johnson Central and then lost to Central in the state finals. Would you have ranked Johnson Central ahead of state 3A champion, Central?

CalPreps has Belfry ranked lower than JC because of the margin of its loss to a Tennessee team, versus the closeness of the JC game - and JC's dominance over Ashland, Wayne Country, and Franklin-Simpson. If Belfry's loss had been by a small margin or if Belfry had finished undefeated, then the win over JC would have placed Belfry over JC.

No system is perfect, but CalPreps generally does the best job of picking winners and losers of any of the popular computer rankings, IMO.

GCHS posted Calpreps rating. I posted maxpreps.

Rivalry games are tough

Kids are kids and not robots

teams get better or worse as the season goes along

upsets happen

i have high school examples you haven't addressed

Pulaski lost 21-6 to Southwest so they are clearly not as good right? I have seen dozens of playoff rematches go totally opposite.

Bottom Line Owensboro had a better team and would be favored in a rematch today.

Didn't Pulaski turn around and beat SW?

Owensboro did not get to beat OC. OC is 2-A and Owensboro is 5-A. OC was projected in the MNI and Homers Radio to come in 3rd/4th place in the City.

I get your logic now and how you poll. You basically take what is on Maxpreps and rate them. That's fine, I just wish you guys would say "Calpreps or Maxpreps" Top 25 and not yours.

Owensboro is better than Owensboro Catholic. They would beat them today and I would put money on it. I believe every ranking I posted. How stupid I must be for thinking a 5a regional runner up is better than a 2a regional runner up. One team played 9 tough teams and one team played 6. One team won more of them and beat the best team of the 2. Man i'm stupid. Blasphemy.

FWIW, Calpreps Top 25 is as follows:

1. Trinity

2. Bowling Green

3. St. Xavier

4. Lafayette

5. Johnson Central

6. Belfry

7. Male

8. Scott County

9. Ryle

10. Manual

11. CAL

12. Simon Kenton

13. PRP

14. Covington Catholic

15. Ballard

16. Fern Creek

17. Christian County

18. Corbin

19. Franklin-Simpson

20. Mayfield

21. Conner

22. Central

23. Owensboro

24. Cooper

25. DeSales

I'm trying to figure out how important head to head matchups are in your polls. I get your polls now. You simply use Maxpreps ratings and there is nothing wrong. It's just not your poll.

Didn't your team get smoked by an 8-5 mater Dei and by Mayfield? Beating Owensboro 3rd weak by one touchdown hardly means you're the better team...

You have trouble reading then because I posted a while back that

A. 1 game is 1/13th of owensboros season. Its math.

B. Me myself and I believe in what I posted, I looked at maxpreps which I trust and didn't see anything I disagree with, therefore its my list and I don't have to label it.

C. Its not a poll, I didn't ask anyone and nobody voted, its a ranking. That's the difference between a poll and a ranking.

Yes we got beat by Mayfield so did your team. What's the point? Yes, we were better then Owensboro. If they were better then OC then they would of beat OC. Simple. As Dana White says "don't leave it to the judges" meaning you should knock someone out or submit them.

You are from Caldwell right?

I bet you had "city champs" t-shirts made. You're wearing it right now aren't you?

I don't have one. My son had a couple, but I used them as dust rags.

I just simply think from all the metrics and the eyeball test that Owensboro is the better team.

No taking away the OCath win..and it wasn't like it was a "shocker" when they beat then.. but I chalk it up to being an upset moreso than OCath being the better team that would repeat that feat if given the chance again.

I do think the OCath loss hinders my view on Owensboro and raises my view on Catholic as a result . With that said, if those teams played again in November I think the vast majority of folks (and as we see the CPU's as well) would still make predictions on Owensboro as the favorite.

If it's any consolation I think Christian County is a better team that Owensboro despite the Devils winning head to head in OT.

Christian County

Oh didn't you get beat by Owensboro?
