Should make for a fun and interesting year.

I think lots of those teams will compete up and down the line and who knows maybe even some not listed.... the difference in these teams isn't as great as some would like to think.....

Like last season NCC beats St Henry by 23 then loses to Newport and another example we beat HHS by 7 and later lose to NCC who again later lost to Newport

I have watched Campbell, and Scott both are really good and could win most regions, the Northern Ky area is stout for sure

Right. But some of that is tainted. HHS didn't have their starting five healthy til January. Many times being down without both guards healthy or even dressed. No excuses, but that definitely plays into scenarios when we compare who beat who. So I agree rankings are for conversation, but they also assume all teams are heathy when they are put together. I think they are always generally pretty close. But I do think CC and Scott for the shaft in this one! Lol.

I have my top 7. From what I heard regarding sk scrimmage they have a lot of work to do defensively. Guards consistently allowed merger to penetrate causing the defense to scramble too often. That's not a horrible thing this time of year

 

Highlands will surprise some people. Very athletic and if they play together they will be tough by year end

 

Campbell is tough as they force all 5 to play defense. Some teams that have a few holes in their D usually struggle with all their backdoor cuts

 

Ryle has one of the best 'point guards' in nky. That is what makes them dangerous. She will make her teammates better and that always makes a team dangerous. However. They lack numbers and an inside presence. I don't see that changing anytime soon

I'm good with this for now. I would probably sneak Conner in there in the 3-6 range.

 

I think you may see that gap you have baked in there now close (for a few of these teams, specifially those next four) a little by the end of the year. But I agree it's there for now.

I wasn't making the case necessarily that my Camels should be higher, I was making the case that a lot of these teams are closer than some may think and frankly you will see the bottom 5 beat some of these top 5 and you may even see a team not listed beat some of those listed...... I get that. All I was saying is that rankings are what they are. But they are based on each team being 100% and taking the averages and a lot of variables to rank them. Sure we can think of all kinds of one-off examples that can prove the rankings wrong, but in reality, they are typically pretty close. We can't really look at one example of an upset or a team playing shorthanded and say "see, these rankings are crap!" I'm not saying that's what you were doing, just a general statement. In general, over the course of a season, they are usually pretty close. Unless a team experiences some season long injuries or a team just can get the chemistry right, the majority of the rankings typically end up pretty close to what they started over the course of a season.

 

With that said, this is a case that I think they got Scott and CC wrong.

I don't know a ton about holmes...I only saw them a few times last year but from what I saw of them I would think Simon would be a 6-8 point favorite at least.

They very well could be. I need to see SK before I judge them. They definitely have the talent. Hopefully they can pull it all together and make a run. I'm just hesitant to be all in yet because of what happened last year with this same group (I know they are a year older), but also because of what others speak of on defense. They seem to have the right mix. Solid guard play and a pretty good big. They will have to shoot better to open up the middle. I know the Jones girl can fill it up from out there, so getting her another year of experience could help with the shooting issue.

 

And I'll be honest...I'm not one that thinks Holmes' gap is as wide from the others this year. They are very good. But nowhere as deep or as big as they have been in the past. That's what I'm curious to see. Will they get out and pressure with not as much depth. Because if they get in foul trouble this year, they may not be able to recover like years past. So they may need to be a little more conservative. And if they aren't out pressuring the ball all over the place, they aren't as intimidating.

 

It will be fun to watch it all play out. Both those teams should have great years!

Just curuious, why would you have Conner above HHS? Player to player? I'm not saying you're wrong at all. Don't take that as an attack on your opinion. More of...I want to pick your brain to pull out why you feel that way. What would you base that on?

That's why I ask. I hear that from others as well. But a closer look says, it may or may not be true.

 

Late in the year, when HHS was completely healthy, HHS beat Conner by 23. Now I only say that to say at that point, HHS was clearly better.

 

From that point on, HHS lost 4 seniors and Conner lost 6. Really impactful seniors (IMO), HHS lost 3 and Conner lost 2-3. All of which had been in place for a long time.

 

Now both teams are starting to rely on their sophomore classes to fill in. Those classes are about equal. Conner's sophomore class did get more chances last year at the varsity level. But at the end of the day, I would say the classes are close to a push.

 

Now you have a team that was arguably better than Conner last year, you have fillers (each program's sophmore class) that are about the same and HHS got Martin (an all region player, listed on the pre-season state top 25 and averaged a ton of points at ND).

 

I'm not debating how good Conner or HHS is or who will win. I'm just surprised how the perception got this way and why folks feel Conner is more prepared coming into this season. Again, not starting an argument, just trying to pick people's brains.
