What If Trump Actually Governs..................

Featured Replies

FWIW, I hope he does. There seems to be some unique areas of common ground he has with Democrats, and I hope he pursues working with them on it. I hope he tries to be a president for everyone and not just the core supporters who lifted him over the hump.

To some extent, his speech on YouTube yesterday and his interview with the NYT exhibited some moderation by walking back some of his more extreme claims (or at least omitted them). So, that's cause for optimism.

On the other hand, some of his appointments so far seem to affirm the ethnonationalism that undergirded his campaign. I'm afraid if his administration is hit by scandal or his popularity dips he'll attempt to whip-up nationalist fervor. It seems to me Bannon's appointment only makes sense in this light. Sessions, Flynn, Kobach seem unified by this theme as well.

I'm cautiously optimistic he'll be better than expected. I hope he is. But, I'm not going to sit on my hands and zip my lips if he proposes things I find repugnant or ignorant.

My feelings exactly. I wish him - and by extension, us - well.

Am I going to crow and bahahahahahahaha when he does not - no. Am I going to call him out - sure will.

Would be a delicious slice of irony if he does , for one I'd be fine with it , say he doesnt build a mexico funded wall but still controls our borders , say he doesnt send Hillry to prison but restores some sense of order to the DOJ , I would welcome that kind of " broken campaign promises" But Oh the irony of saying one thing to get elected but doing something just slightly different when in office -- Hell the Dems have been doing that to get elected for 2 decades . How else would they win a race other than to deceive the public ? Hopefully the R's took note .

I think they did.:thumb:

I think he will be more moderate than I would like to see, but even a moderate Trump is a darn sight better than Hillary would have been. I've stated that he was not my 1st or 2nd choice in this cycle, so I don't expect him to be as Conservative as I'd like. That said, his Supreme Court Pick(s) are the most important thing to me right now, and I am confident that whomever he nominates will be far more Conservative than anyone Hillary would have chosen.

Will you give him credit when he does?

Will you give him credit when he does?

I'm sure Papa will, but the early results from the media aren't encouraging? Back to the origin message here--Let's give the man a chance to govern and then judge?

I'd say he will soon discover he has no appetite for governing. He may very well "pull a Palin" and quit within about 24 months. Wouldn't surprise me at all.

No chance. He will do fine.

You're grasping at straws SF. :lol2:

He might want to put that therapist on a retainer. :sssh:

I sure will. I hope I get several chances.

I see him again in two weeks. Restful sleep won't come. Trump is beginning to show up in my nightmares.

It's tough to predict he will be moderate based on the folks he is bringing into the administration.

Then you had to much faith in politicians to begin with. Try finding faith in the common man. Politicians will always disapoint you at some level. People free, governments enslave if not body, minds.

For those that hope he governs towards the middle what can they hold onto as a sign that he will?

Please don't say his words. He says what the audience wants to hear (see NYT interview).
