November 17, 20169 yr Donald Trump on refusing presidential salary: "I'm not taking it" - CBS News Who needs a salary when you can make some real money from the government? How Trump Can Make Money Off the Secret Service - Bloomberg
November 17, 20169 yr I agree. Wealthy politicians refusing to take a salary is nothing but a gimmick. If Bloomberg had paid New York City to be mayor, it would still have been a very bad deal for taxpayers there. I would respect rich politicians more if they worked so hard and did such a good job that taxpayers insisted that they accept a raise. If, after doing their job, they wanted to donate their salaries to a worthy charity, then they would earn even more of my respect.
November 17, 20169 yr As for making money off the Secret Service, I believe that Joe Biden already has the blueprint for that project. Of course, if the Biden plan is executed by Trump, it will be a huge scandal.
November 17, 20169 yr I'm thinking Hoover and Kennedy gave theirs to charity, and Washington had his expenses paid only, so their have been a lot of rich presidents still take the salary plus. I do like the fact he doesn't need it so he is not taking it.

November 17, 20169 yr Have we had Presidents in the past who have had the appearance of conflicts of interest financially like we will in 2017? For example, there's a big protest going on over the Dakota pipeline. Trump has a financial interest in the pipeline. Deutsche Bank was fined $14B by the US Justice Dept. Trump has over $300M in outstanding mortgages with DB and DB is fighting the fine. Seems like this is an unusual position for a POTUS to be in. Are there others that I'm not remembering?

Not a chance, but trying to compare Trump to previous candidates is a false equivalency. It would not have been on this level, but Hillary may have been the closest thing to having hoards of interests coming into the Commander-in-Chief role, and even it would have paled in comparison.

One more example of just how unique this election was.
November 17, 20169 yr Haters are going to hate. Hats off to trump for not taking the money. Maybe some more should follow his lead.

November 17, 20169 yr Author Are you OK with a POTUS winning financially by decisions made by his administration? Surely he isn't. He hates when Obama plays golf. A POTUS winning financially by decisions made by his administration could possibly put ref in a Gary Busey fit of rage.
