3rd coach in how many years? Is there a problem at GRC?

Probably the good ol parental meat grinder. You have a head coach, his paid staff, & a couple hundred volunteer coaches in the stands. Most places have overblown expectations on a quick turnaround that 99% of the time is not possible. Then when they don't turn it around fast enough, the support bottoms out & they pack up & leave for the process to start over again.

Its hard for people to be patient, believe me, as an AD when I was doing it I wanted it to happen quickly too, for the kids sake, to build up school spirit & to keep my phone ringing from overzealous parents who complain about every single thing that doesn't go their way including the scoreboard on Friday night.

-6A

-They've only won 11 games the last 6 years with three different coaches, which obviously comes out to be

-Didn't this last guy have years of college experience, most recently at Georgia State?

Unless they are absolutely willing to bend over backwards for somebody, then expect to hire a first time head coach or somebody with a little experience as a head man. There is nothing wrong with either of those, but Mr. Big Name isn't walking through the doors.

Paul Columbia was there from 99-2011 overall record 71-75

Steve Collins was there 2012-2013 overall record 3-19

Mike Riddle was there 2014-2016 overall record 6-27

Par for the course, just as soon as a coach gets things changed around in a system that was defunct, he never gets to see it through.

I like how the article referred to outside forces. Those outside forces need to pickup a whistle.

Btw I heard Oldham Co is open too

Dang right they do.

What was Mark Riddle before he was at Clark Co?

What was Mark Riddle before he was at Clark Co?

I copied this from the thread when he was hired. Needless to say; a pretty solid resume and then some.

The Cardinals introduced former University of Kentucky offensive lineman Mike Riddle as coach this morning at the school. Riddle lettered for four seasons with the Wildcats (1995-98) and was named Scout Team Player of the Year in 1998. Riddle played under Bill Curry and Hal Mumme at Kentucky and was on the team’s 1998 squad that lost to Penn State in the Outback Bowl.

Riddle coached under Curry at Georgia State for five seasons and was Curry’s offensive line coach before Curry announced his retirement at the end of the 2012 season.

Following his career at Kentucky, Riddle was an assistant coach at Colerain High School in Cincinnati and Lexington Catholic High School in Lexington. He also was a graduate assistant coach and offensive quality control assistant at Indiana University.

This might be an apples to oranges comparison, but here it goes. Both of these schools are 6A & the only school in their county. GRC's enrollment is 1652 to Scott Co. 2467 a difference of 815 students total. Total male enrollment for Scott Co. is 1215 & for GRC is 833 for a difference is 382 for the current 2015-2016 data. I can't see back past 2002-2003 but The male enrollment was much closer back then GRC 704 to Scott Co. 882. What does this mean? Nothing really, but I just wanted to crunch some numbers & look at them to compare as numbers don't really mean everything to how good or bad a team is going to be.

Looking @ GRC & Scott Co. from 1990 to the present its pretty interesting:

1990-1999

GRC overall 60-54

Scott Co overall 54-53

2000-2009

GRC overall 59-54

Scott Co. overall 85-36

2010-present

GRC overall 16-50

Scott Co. overall 72-11

Jim McKee took over in 1997, went 7-4, 9-2, 4-6 & 5-6 in his first 4 years. Wonder what would have happened if the parents woulda came after him after back to back losing seasons there?

Sounds like GRC needs to take a chance on letting someone install a system & build it up, they might be surprised in the results.

I watched them play Friday and they had some decent athletes and seemed poorly coached. It also looked like they only had 30 kids on their roster. Just my opinion.

Why was Paul Columbia fired? It seemed to me he did the most that he could with the talent he had at his disposal. GRC was never great, but they always competed hard and were a tough team. He put his kids in a position to win, if you look objectively at high school football, what more can you ask for?

I like Coach Riddle , I thought he did a good job, and I liked what he said in the paper....he thought it was becoming a distraction and he was putting the kids first. Good luck to Coach Riddle and to GRC.
