Open Job: Oldham County

The Oldham County Colonels release Head Coach Mike Shatzer after 3 years.

I think this is a bad move but being just a parent my opinion really holds no weight. My son has only been there 2 years but the team has improved greatly in those 2. Who ever takes this job is walking into a gold mine. 8 returning starters on defense. Your #2 running back, #3,4,5 receivers and #1 Qb. 3 of the 5 O-Line and there were over 100 kids this year with only 15 Seniors. Good luck to Mike in his future endeavors.

Doesn't Oldham have a loaded Sophomore class?

I am not a fan of letting coaches go when they have a lot in the pipeline as Soph's or Freshman. Winning cures all.. if they stumble as Juniors then maybe I can see a change, but this screams hair trigger.

yes they do, I couldn't agree more.

Seems odd. They seemed much better this year and were within two scores of the #4 seed and a field goal of the #3 seed.

Agreed. I've never quite understood why the golden number of years in college is four years for a coach when they can go and get WHO THEY WANT to play for them, yet high schools (ones that are far from power house programs at that) pull the plug after 2-3 bad seasons? Never made a lot of sense to me.

Did they let him go or did he resign/force to resign?

They let him go.

Calpreps has this years team 9 points better than last year. How long was he there?

Big senior class in 14 i'm guessing? one year down and them headed back uphill?

With them dropping Ballard and CAL for Grant County & Henry County, 8-2 is not a far jump. Grant Co (3-7), Henry Co (2-8), North Oldham (0-10), J-Town (1-9), Nelson Co (0-10), N. Bullitt (7-3), Bullitt Central (7-3), Bullitt East (3-7), Shelby Co (9-1), South Oldham (9-1).

That I'm not sure to be honest in '14. I know the year before he took over they went 2-8. He went three wins, one, three. I'm guessing a low cycle for a couple years, then a crap load of young kids in his program this year that were seeing significant playing time (apparently had 100+ in his program 9-12). 3-7, coulda-shoulda-woulda been 4-6.

I know a kid on Frosh team and Frosh team was very good. Seems the future of program was looking good. Hope they find good replacement.

I remember playing Oldham Co when I was in high school, they were pretty good, and even beat us pretty good my freshmen year at X.

What is the outside view of this job? Is their support from administration? How many kids are in the program?

had over 100+ players total. Freshmen had over 30, only 15 Seniors.

Froshmore team went 7-0

Freshmen were 3-0

JV was 1-1
