IMO, NewCath is way too one dimensional. Stop the run and essentially you stop their offense. Henschen just doesn't have the weapons on the outside to get it done. Fortunately for NewCath, Lloyd will be Lloyd (should they see each other again) and Holy Cross, like NewCath, is a running team with way less discipline which will kill them giving NewCath another regional title.

If NCC faces for HC again... HC will win by 2+ td's.

That's a bit farfetched. NewCath hasn't regressed and HC hasn't progressed that much in that short of time. You don't just flip a 21-0 loss into a 2+ TD win. Will it be closer? I'll assume so, but NewCath will still win.

I think everyone is being too hard on the New Cath play calling. Beechwood's defense had an answer for everything they tried. I thought the naked bootleg by Henschen when they were on the 20 was a very good call but Beechwood's defense stayed home and then the speed kept Henschen from making anything out of the run. A couple of the screen passes were good, well timed calls but Beechwood's defensive players did their jobs, quickly recognized the play and stopped it before much of a gain. I was surprised that New Cath could not run the ball on Beechwood. Probably 90% of their rushing yards came on Henschen scrambles and read option type runs. Henschen was not accurate on the short throws tonight and missed some opportunities.

I don't put tonight's offensive woes for New Cath on the play calling. Beechwood has a very disciplined, fast defense and they have done what they did to New Cath tonight to everyone. Cov Cath wore them down in the second half. Holy Cross had 3 or 4 big play runs that got them the bulk of their points. Besides that, Beechwood's defense has been lights out all year.

But I will say New Cath going for it on 4th and 4 at their own 30 in the third quarter down 14 ... that was bad. NCC fans have every right to be totally ticked off at that call.

They are not being harsh enough!

What are the coaches missing New Cath fans? What should the coaches have called?

What do you call doing the same thing over and over with no success? It's such a deep rooted issue, that's all I want to say.

Are you serious?? The play calling was down right terrible!! It's been terrible for the last several years and tonight it really showed. Beechwood had a simple game plan that was well executed and aided by the play calling. They put a spy on Henschen and set the edge, forcing him back to middle of the defense. The screen game doesn't work when the defense knows it's coming! The abandoned the run before attempting to get it started. Just look at how many carries Kelly and Decker had and most of them were on the final two drives. How many times did he rollout Henschen into the blitz? Why not run up tempo and not huddle? Why not throw quick passes from the pocket to loosen up the run?

Running game went nowhere. Kelly was stuffed all night. No push from the NCC line, which surprised me considering the size advantage for NCC.

From what I saw tonight, Henschen is not accurate throwing short passes. I saw a good variety of short patterns tried and when they were completed Beechwood's defense was right there with the immediate tackle.

I can only speak to what I saw tonight because that is the only time I have seen New Cath this year. But the thing that I saw is New Cath is slow and Beechwood is fast - and no play calling is going to change that. Even the long passes that were completed were well defended by Beechwood with DB's right there. The NCC WR's were just able to out jump and/or out position the Beechwood DB and come down with the ball. Speed kills and it killed NCC tonight.

I agree WoW Beechwood.

And NCC, gonna be tough sledding.

I think the winner of the quarterfinals (Danville, LCA, etc.) advances this season. I'll go with the Ads getting it done.

Can Holy Cross going to more Wildcat be the difference in defeating NCC? Looked VERY good vs Lloyd=42-0 at halftime.

I was more surprised with the Breds struggle to run the ball last night too. Beechwood's speed was the real difference maker. It felt like it was over a little before halftime to me, which rarely happens when these two play.

Nice win for the Beechies. Now the long wait for the state semi's.

I am calling it
