Beechwood 42 Newport Catholic 14

Featured Replies

I think everyone is being too hard on the New Cath play calling. Beechwood's defense had an answer for everything they tried. I thought the naked bootleg by Henschen when they were on the 20 was a very good call but Beechwood's defense stayed home and then the speed kept Henschen from making anything out of the run. A couple of the screen passes were good, well timed calls but Beechwood's defensive players did their jobs, quickly recognized the play and stopped it before much of a gain. I was surprised that New Cath could not run the ball on Beechwood. Probably 90% of their rushing yards came on Henschen scrambles and read option type runs. Henschen was not accurate on the short throws tonight and missed some opportunities.

I don't put tonight's offensive woes for New Cath on the play calling. Beechwood has a very disciplined, fast defense and they have done what they did to New Cath tonight to everyone. Cov Cath wore them down in the second half. Holy Cross had 3 or 4 big play runs that got them the bulk of their points. Besides that, Beechwood's defense has been lights out all year.

But I will say New Cath going for it on 4th and 4 at their own 30 in the third quarter down 14 ... that was bad. NCC fans have every right to be totally ticked off at that call.

Revisionist history much. BW had big plays in the 1st half that totaled them 33pts. HC had 3 td's called back in the 2nd half. All of those flags came from the same ref on BW's side of the field. BW is a well oiled machine with a couple of game breaking speedsters.

Great summary. Only thing saw was. It was Freppn who caught the second long pass also. SEems like he catches most passes thrown his way, but they don,t go to him very offen.

I know for sure that two of those TD's that were called back because of flags would not have been TD's if the penalty did not happen. You can't complain about that. If the kids don't commit the penalties, they are not even big plays, let alone TD's.

1st and foremost I haven't complained about up anything. You gave and opinion about HC only scored because they hit big plays. I just pointed out that HC had 3 TD's called back. I have talked to BW supporters and they say if we would have ran the ball all game, there is no way the BW would have beaten HC.

Woulda, coulda, shoulda.......let it go. I'm sure all fans could say the same thing, If we did this, or we should have done that, then we could have done this. Hindsight is 20/20. Just let it go.

For your clarification, I didn't bring up HC in this thread. I responded to someone saying HC just hit on big plays. The hindsight and let it go comments are unwarranted. If you had paid more attention my post. I said Beechwood supporter that attended the HC v Lloyd game believes that there is no way the Tigers would have beat HC if HC had run the ball all game long.

I stand by my post, just let it go. Who cares how the Holy Cross-Beechwood game could have been. Holy Cross lost that game and was beat by a better team, just as Newcath was last night.

No need to talk about those games anymore. Both teams can rehash every close win and loss and come up with plays that could have made a difference. Holy Cross has their chance to prove it on the field in the playoffs.

Agree 100%

No.... Lloyd and NewCath are that far apart, regardless of how "down" NewCath is. Holy Cross has 2 solid backs but that's about it. Their discipline is what hurts them. Again, I don't think NewCath blanks HC if they see each other again, but NewCath still wins a 21/28-14 ball game.

2 solid backs and that's it? That shows that you don't much about this holy cross football team. They have a lot of talented players with a lot of experience.

I prepared for HC, I watched film on HC. Shutdown on Barnes and contain Abernathy and it's a win. And yes, I know that's not easy to do. And they have some talent but not game changers, sorry to say it. Also penalties are a killer for them. You say tomatoe, I say tomato
