Is Fulton County not playing in the playoffs?

Featured Replies

Fulton County, winless and the 4th place team in Class 1A-District 1, appears to not be on the bracket for the 1A playoffs. Bethlehem is shown moving ahead into the second round. Any reason why? And while I understand they aren't very good, unless they don't have enough players, I'm not sure I agree with the precedent of dropping out of the playoffs. Thoughts?

Here is the bracket, FYI:

Per the KHSAA website, but I don't know the reasons why not eligible

Teams not eligible for district title-

McCreary Central 7 - 2 0 - 0

Phelps 4 - 5 0 - 0

Clinton County 4 - 5 0 - 0

Sheldon Clark 1 - 6 0 - 0

Fulton County 0 - 8 0 - 0

Their addition of Fulton County is recent, then. That chart only showed McCreary, Phelps, Sheldon Clark, and Clinton last week.

I hate to get off topic but have Fulton Co and Fulton City ever thought of merging?

IF, they chose to not play in the playoffs because they didn't think they should be eligible, my hat if off to them for standing up and saying they shouldn't be in the playoffs instead of going though the motions and doing what is expected.

I don't know if that is the reason, but I kind of hope it is because I feel, and have stated it many times, the players of many struggling programs have to suffer because of the decisions the adults are making in the name of "helping the players".

Linked below is the most recent survey conducted by the KHSAA regarding the postseason. Every class except 1A had a sizable majority who thought four schools should qualify. In Class 1A, 9 schools wanted 4 teams, 9 wanted 3, and 11 wanted 2. Three teams abstained. Classification has changed since then but for the most part it is the same teams.

I really wish they would also BAC! I think it's political though is why they don't. Sad really.

It is political. County would have complete control over city if they merged. City doesn't want it.

I'm really curious why McCreary Central sitting at 7-2 on the season is not participating? Was this something I missed that the KHSAA ruled on, or is it self imposed? After a quick glance at the KHSAA site, I have to go back to 2014 to find district results from them, are they on probation?

They chose to sit out district play last year and this to boost their program. Their schedule was made more manageable and they've had success. They are moving back to district play next year and will play with Bell, Casey, Corbin, and Jackson.

Yes it was considered a few, 3 I think, years ago but the City school board rejected it so yes its political but I would also point out that had they merged the Fulton City kids would have to go to school in Hickman a distance of 16.78 miles one way. That was a stated consideration for what its worth. Some kids cross the state line and go to school at South Fulton, TN which is in the TN portion of the same town and has much more up to date facilities.

Politics play big parts in everything now days... If consolidated they may could field a competitive team.. I think a few years back Fulton city had one..

Maybe put the consolidated school halfway between Fulton and Hickman.

I'm sure that is the coaches of said teams, and not necessarily the players.

Actually, it is the athletic directors and principals. It would be interesting to see what a coaches and players survey would look like.
