Russellvilles only test on the year was Butler County and they beat them 50-42...It shows they are vulnerable to an good team.

 

That game wasn't As close as the final score indicted. Butler played from behind 2-3 td basically the whole game.

 

No doubt number 1 in 1a if they win this game. Do I think that will happen? No, but that is why the game is played.

How Russellville plays in this game is going to be the barometer on how good they are. Following this game they could be anywhere from 1 to 6 in the 1A rankings.

I would like to see Russellville on tape.. I've seen Beechwood,Paintsville,Raceland,Pikeville,Hazard,Williamsburg and Harlan on tape/ in person... Need to see them to get a fair assumption on them..

Rsvl won't be able to just line up and run it downhill on FS and I don't think they'll try. I see a lot of misdirection, sweeps, short screens in space, slants, etc to keep the chains moving. I see them breaking off some big plays in doing that, I expect the Panthers to come out strong and get a couple of scores up and then it's a matter of them being able to hold off the FS charge late. I think somehow late, the Panthers get a big turnover and are able to hold off a late FS charge.. 34-28

I havent watched a full game but what I have seen from Hudl:

- Excellent skill players. They have a couple guys who are great with the ball in their hands.

- Quick Defense, flows to the ball well

- Not a very big team in the trenches, have a cuple nice sized kids but also have a few that look out of place.

 

Good overall looking 1A team... with that said they have played NOONE. I am not sure I see them hoisting the hardware. In fact I am going to say from what I saw I would consider them closer to Hazard than I would consider them closer to Paintsville or Beechwood.

They have very good speed. Last year their speed caught Beechwood a couple times and they made big plays. Do they throw the ball? It is very hard for a run only team to beat Beechwood.

IMO franklin would beat any team in 1A by multiple touchdowns.

They have very good speed. Last year their speed caught Beechwood a couple times and they made big plays. Do they throw the ball? It is very hard for a run only team to beat Beechwood.

 

Holy Cross came near close...they did pass a few plays but mainly run.

The difference this year is on the Blue side of the ball. FS is better up front both offensively and defensively. Franklin-Simpson is going to run the ball. They are going to attempt to run between the tackles. If that doesn't work they are going to run between the tackles. It is still doesn't work they are going to run between the tackles. From the FS side this will look like Woody Hayes vs. Bo back in the 60's and 70's. If you average 3.4 yds/carry the chains keep moving and the clock keeps counting down.

Completely agree. If the same thing happens this year I would not be surprised. What I think everyone fails to realize is that IMO any team in 1A would suffer the same fate if they were to play franklin Simpson. I will say it again, they are the real deal and don't be surprised if the score is similar to last year or worse.

Imo, the verdicts still out on both these teams.. Both schedules have been suspect. FS win over SW looked good at the time, but, it's been obvious that they aren't near as strong as last year. Greenwood was a decent win, but, they made there name off a SW win as well $ nothing else on their schedule stands out as a quality win. I don't put a lot of stock in a TD lead at halftime that didn't get to finish.

FS has the potential to be explosive on offense by passing the ball. They just don't do that unless they absolutely have to. My fear is that they will get into a playoff game and struggle at rushing for a while and fall behind (like they did against South Warren) and will not be able to make up the ground they lose. I would rather see them come out throwing against a good team and try to catch them by surprise. I love a good rushing attack if it is working. The game against Warren East is a good example of that. FS really didn't need to pass because its line was controlling the game. They do a lot of their passing on 3rd and 4th downs when the defense knows it is coming. A little more passing on earlier downs could be even more effective.
