October 1, 20169 yr Those in Florida and the east coast should keep an eye on Hurricane Matthew. It is now a cat 4 hurricane. The forecast track for now have it possibly hitting parts of southern Fla. It was just down graded to a Cat 4 but could regenerate into a cat. 5 after it passes over Jamaica and Cuba. Depending on the track Matthew could hit Florida around Wednesday-Thursday. Wednesday 8 pm EDT Thursday 8 pm EDT

If I was headed that way or had family there I would pay close attention in the coming days to this storm and its path. We're still about a week away from that.

A Hurricane Watch could be needed for portions of eastern Cuba later today. A Hurricane Watch means that hurricane conditions are possible within the watch area. A watch is typically issued 48 hours before the anticipated first occurrence of tropical-storm-force winds, conditions that make outside preparations difficult or dangerous.

October 2, 20169 yr Author Thanks. Wednesday to Monday of this coming week. Just looked and the latest GFS model. For now Hilton Head looks to get a glancing blow from Hurricane Matthew. It is predicted to make landfall sometime around 8 pm EDT Friday night in North Carolina. That is if it continues on the projected course and maintains its present speed. Also the projected path has it just missing the east coast of Florida. But a word of caution. We are still about a week away and it could possibly take a more westerly track. I would continually check the weather if you are planning a trip late next week to the parts of the U.S. that maybe affected by this storm. As of 5 am this morning Matthew is still a cat 4 storm.
