Kind of an inappropriate and unjustified low blow to any program. why not keep the thread on the game and the teams?

 

Not inappropriate or unjustified. CAL fans have earned their reputation. They are least Christian behaving alleged Christian football fans I have ever come across. Also, the least hospitable booth I have ever ventured in and most crooked clock operator. Desales glad this one is at home.

I hadn't voted in this poll yet, but when I saw it was 12-12, I had to throw my vote in there. I see a lot of Colts fans on their side of the poll, and a lot of everyone else on the other side. I don't disagree that CAL should be the favorite. I think the last time we beat them in the regular season, Elvis sang the National Anthem.....

If you would have asked me 4 weeks ago, I would have said CAL. Now i really believe it to be a pick-em type game, where as I said earlier turnovers will be the key. I really believe that DeSales has gotten into CAL's head. How could they not? I've never put to much stock in the regular season matchup, in previous years, knowing we would see them again. But.....Now that we have a true home field, we need this game, to capture home field for the entire playoffs. This is a monster game, for both teams. They have advantages, and we have advantages, it's whoever can take advantage the best will win this football game.

 

As has been said. I have been to many DeSales vs CAL match ups over the years. It's an intense rivalry. We pray together before the game, but once the foot hits leather it's on! It can be chippy. However when the last whistle blows it's over. They have always been great to our kids. In years past they fed our players chick- fil- A sandwiches for their bus ride home. I'm not going to pass judgement on their program, by the actions of some of their fans, mostly their student sections which they were throwing out some same insults to our cheerleaders as they were walking out of the playoff game last year. I know that our Student section the (Danger Zone) can dish it out too. I'm sure they are just waiting for Friday night. It's just part of the rivalry, and I've told both my kids to enjoy it. You only get to live in it for 4 short years.

No question that Desales has been the better program. What I have come to learn is that the players quickly move on from the rivalry once they get to college or the workforce. They play football at college together, join the same fraternities and even work together in real life. It is really the current players, fans and us crazy parents that act like this game is the end all be all. I perhaps more than most am guilty, guilty, guilty. The fact is that contrary to the comments of good ole Jimmy Seymour above, fans are all the same. They, including me, see the world through their own team's colors. The other team and it's fans are always mean and angry and disrespectful while your own fans are good God fearing honest people who never say or step over the line. We all know that the truth lies somewhere in the middle. Even in defeat in the playoffs I will say that watching these two teams play against one another is a pleasure, albeit sometimes a painful one. I hope the Colts and the Centurions stay injury free and maybe, just maybe, I am secretly hoping that CAL loses the regular season game to change up the mojo! Lastly, having played games at Iroquois and Southern I can tell that we are very excited to play at your new stadium. A program like Desales deserves it.

I am considering going to this game. Could the Desales fans let me know about parking at the new stadium? Also what about concessions, should I eat before the game or get grub there?

New everything. It is on the site where we used to play freshman and JV games. But they totally re-did everything. Parking is definitely a challenge. The tailgater's will be there early and in force. There is a field lot that costs $ 10.00 (which goes to the baseball team) right across from the school. That's your best bet. As far as the concessions go, it's very good. They have really good pork chop sandwiches.

Agree with ColtPride on everything. Concession food is good and there's plenty of variety. One more thing on the parking. You can park for free in surrounding neighborhoods, but you will have a longer walk. Also, be sure not to block anyone's driveway. Every home game there has been an announcement about someone parking illegally.

So, it's Wednesday. Here's my take on this game by position groups.

 

Defense - front seven.

This is one of CAL's strengths. D1 guy on the line, surrounded by other quality players. I would think it would be hard for the Colts to have much success running in the middle.

Coming into the season, this was considered one of the biggest areas of concern for the Colts. However, this group has gotten better every week and frequently went to a nickel package against pass-happy North Hardin, yet still stopped the run with only six in the box.

 

Defense - secondary

I am unfamiliar with CAL's secondary other than they have Wright back there. I do believe there are no more Llewellyns (sp?) this year - they were ALL good.

This is an extremely strong point for DeSales. They totally shut down North Hardin's passing attack. I seriously doubt that the Colts will play anyone this year that has a better secondary.

 

Offense - Line

DeSales has traded size and strength for speed and agility. The linemen have shown great improvement and opened big holes last week.

CAL has always had good linemen, and I would expect no different this year. They will need to be able to protect Carr because if he is consistently pressured it will be bad news for the Centurions.

 

Offense - skill positions

CAL has young but experienced stars in Carr and Wright. They can be a lethal combination. The running game has some new faces, and CAL always has a balanced attack.

DeSales is loaded here. At QB they have a traditional, steady, field general type and a young, athletic and fearless guy. Either could start Friday. They are extremely deep at RB and receiving positions.

 

Summary

DeSales has little in common with the team from last year. They rely on speed and aggressiveness on both sides of the ball. They are deep all over the field, consistently subbing 2,3,4 players between snaps on both sides of the ball. Could that depth become a factor in a close game in the 4th quarter?

CAL is explosive and has play-makers. I think they will have to have some big plays to win this game, and they are entirely capable of that. They are the more experienced team, and they have owned the regular season matchups.

 

Prediction - Can't pick against the Colts. I think they have improved drastically in the last three weeks, and the crowd is going to be crazy. There will be people waiting for the students to clear the parking lot after school so they can begin tailgating. I'll go with the Colts in a close one 20-17.

So... CAL has started a website beatdesales.com Whoever created it, openly states that CAL, and their supporters can't stand DeSales. Wow! That hurts guys. You guys keep focusing on us, and we'll focus on bigger and better things. lol

Hearsay, you know a few rotten apples can cause the whole bushel to stink. Gave up my Bengals tickets of 30 years because of the newer fans that had bought into the seats around us.....stood the whole game....used ultra foul language constantly....and got sloppy drunk. Still love the Bengals and appreciate the support of 90% of those in attendance....but, 10% were jerks that sucked the fun out of going to the games. Easy to conclude Bengals fans deserve being called jerks, but I know it is only that few brash, vocal minority.

Picking DeSales on this meeting between these 2A powerhouses....and the fact that I'm a Colt fan, lol. New stadium, big crowd makes the difference in this rivalry. But I must say that CAL comes in with a very impressive resume. They got great skill players, Carr,Wright etc...they're game changers. But I really like the speed of the Colts D and if we can generate enough offense and keep the ball out of the fore mention Centurion players hands, then that could make the scoring low and play into DeSales favor..... Let's have a fun and safe game tomorrow night. GO COLTS
