Phelps 40 Jenkins 8

Way to go Hornets. Congrats on a big win and bigger things to come.

This Phelps story is heading in a very good direction. Phelps fans have to be excited.

Poor Jenkins. Looks like their only chance for a win might be South Floyd this Friday. Battle of the 0-6 teams.

I don't want to come across mean or trying to degrade the Jenkins kids who are busting their butt to try and compete

With that said, the team photo I saw in the Pre-Season of the Jenkins team may have been the single saddest team photo I have ever seen. They barely had 20 players pictured, their jersey's didn't even all match, and you could tell they looked like 15 or 16 year old kids who had not seen extensive weight training.

Here's hoping that both they and South Floyd find a game to win this year so neither have to go winless!

As for Phelps...

Great job! Last year Jenkins beat Phelps by a fairly large margin so it shows the improvement they have made.

They now play a Hannan, WV team that is 1-4 and lost to the Montcalm team that Phelps beat.

I think they beat Hannan and South Floyd.

Hurley, VA is undefeated and may be too steep of a hill to climb.

I think Sherman, WV is a great game to really set their sights on and go after. Sherman is 5-1 but I would compare them to like a Lawrence County or West Carter in Kentucky. Will be a really tough game for Phelps to win, but also a team that they can really be challenged with and see how far they have come, or the next step to where they want to go.

@ATLCat Hopefully my comment wasn't taken that way either. These small communities don't have much coming to them anymore & have families leaving there more than anything. Hard to see how some of these small schools/communities have sustained for as long as they have.

I never want to be the person that is seen as glorifying a winless season, that is far from who I am, hope it didn't come off that way.

Looking at the schedule, I think a 4-6 finish for Phelps is very realistic.
