Is Russellville the real number one? Is their strength of schedule strong enough? Has Beechwood's strength of schedule made people overlook them? How will the rankings change after Pikeville and Hazard play this week? Who could move out of the Top 10 after this week? Who may move in?

Hazard at Pikeville seems to be the headline game this week, very good matchup.

Im shifting my thinking now. Im thinking that Paintsville and Raceland may both be better than Rville. Im not sold on Beechwood yet, but these 4, imo, have put a little bit of a gap between them and the 5-7 teams. Though I think Pikeville and Hazard are good enough beat any of the top 4, but not likely as it stands right now. Beechwood is likely better than their body of work suggest, but their offense isnt very explosive right now. Which is a general trend among past title contenders. But Idk if Russellville's defense is strong enough right now to be number 1. Raceland looks like the most well rounded team in terms of offense and defense. But their special teams play is weak. So each have their hang ups. Its just a matter of match ups really. Very balanced class from 1-6, but, I do think 1A is way down this year as a whole. But its making for better competition.

Btw, i dont see Nicholas Co beating Hazard...

You didn't see Nicholas County beating Brossart.

Fair to say that 1A is the most wide open?

I don't really think so! Top 5 or 6 are capable and top 3 or 4 have probably separated themselves a touch! Yea not any more open than some of the other classes! Seems to be a pretty solid year for 1A! Pretty much stacks up like last year! Last year same story. Top 6 or so we're capable but top 3's game was up another level!

I think that the postseason for Class A will be very interesting this year. Any team is capable from 1-7 IMO.

Brossart ain't Hazard

Probably. I'm not sure how many teams can win it, but I also don't think there is a definitive favorite in 1A like there is in 2A, 3A, 5A, and 6A. The thing about 1A, with such small schools, one injury can derail a team in their championship bid.

The only thing I will say about Beechwood this year is that they are more balanced. Last year they had three really good players that they relied on every game and when Stringer got hurt, that really hurt them. This year they have no stars and they are mixing in a lot more players, which is keeping them fresher. They are young but they play hard, and are well coached. They will be better come the end of the year than they are now.

1-5 all have very legitimate shots to win a title. After that I think we're just talking tough outs in the playoffs.

I agree, some people have cut Nicholas County down every chance they get. I am from Hazard, and am friends with their coaches. Brosseit is definitely not Hazard. You never know what is going to happen till you kick off.
