Man's SUV stalled in the middle of a two-lane road outside of the city. Police arrive.

Police say that the man refused to put his hands in the air and then he reached into the SUV at which point one officer fired a taser and another officer fired a shot which killed him.

Video was released today.

#1 is from the police copter. Not sure how the 2nd man in the copter can determine that he looks like "a bad dude and "he might be on something."

It's going to be real difficult to find police officers. It's really hard to recruit officers now and with this stuff you'll only get the bottom of the barrel candidates to apply, adding to the cycle.

Once again, right or wrong, ALWAYS obey the commands of a police officer. Hire a lawyer if you must, just don't make any sudden moves or be confrontational. Not worth dying over.

What did you see in the video?

Posted
A guy that wouldn't stand still and was going to do what he wanted.

Are you saying it's OK to shoot based on the fact that you THINK he might not do what he is told?

Moving? Moving warrants a shot?

Did I say it was an ok shooting? You asked what we saw, I responded.

The video gives very little insight as to what was going on at the front of the car.

To be clear when you say "front" are you referring to where he was standing at the time of being shot?

Where was he going? Why did he just keep walking away from them?

No audio so we don't know if the officer told him to put his hands on the car or if he just figured that's what he was supposed to do or...who knows.

The video leaves enough room for speculation that those who want to justify either side can do so.

Bigger issue for me (other than a guy dying) is that the police report on the night of the shooting was that he wouldn't put his hands up and that he reached "inside" the SUV. Video doesn't support that. Bad memory as a result of so much going on in the mind of the officer? Selling the shooting? Again, you can get behind either of those based on what you want to believe.

This video and a few other cases in the last few years where video refutes what happened is why you have people in Columbus, rightly or wrongly, being cynical of the police claims that the kid reached inside his waistband. Doesn't matter what's true.

Always look forward to logging on BGP and finding Clyde's posts about officer involved shootings. Must be like a little boy on Christmas morning to read about one on the CNN ticker and rush to the laptop to make a post.

Thanks again.

Looked like he was almost at the police car when he started walking away...this is very curious.

For those familiar with police protocol...

Are the police supposed to try to administer any aid after the shooting? Let's assume they make the determination he is not a threat (which I assume at least one officer did as evident by him driving up to the SUV) do they check a pulse? Do they do anything? Do they stay clear in order to preserve evidence?
