I've seen it in other sports, I know it happens. Admittedly I am not nearly as familiar with KY high school football as you and/or others are or may be, but if you want to deal in absolutes and say that it has never happened then I would say you are absolutely wrong. Is it common, does it happen every year? Of course not. But if you just disagree with my general statement that great talent and average coaching has won a state championship here and there, well we are just not going to agree on that point.

 

 

 

Not quite sure where you got that Purple. I never said that or even alluded to that. I coach myself (not football) and I KNOW how important coaching is, believe me. I have gone against coaches and thought "man, that guy's not real good"...and I've left games thinking "crap, that guy just handed me my butt and gave me seconds". I would NEVER disregard coaching, especially on the high school level. With that said, there have been times when an average coach/staff have walked away with a state championship because the talent they had was just so much better than their relative competition. And if it's never happened in KY as 4theCats alludes to above, well then I guess it's just the one place it hasn't happened.

BG wouldn't be where they are at now without Coach Wallace and his staff. That's a known fact to anyone who has been paying attention to BG's rise in the last decade. To allude to anything otherwise or to not acknowledge that fact will have you answering to your posts and thoughts the way you are now. No way BG is where they are now with an average coach and some would argue that others can't catch BG because they have average coaching.

Yes. I used BG as an example and we're still waiting for you to say what team has won a state title with average coaching. It's not possible in any high school sport.

There are teams now that compete with BG in 5A. Pulaski, Graves, Highlands are a few that come to mind. BG is tough and in many years are right at the top, but there are teams that are very competitive with BG.

 

Someone on here mentioned South Warren. While they have a solid team, they are still the biggest frauds in Kentucky High School sports. Until they play in the class they are supposed to AND have consistent success, I will continue to believe this. But with that area growing like it is, they will continue to bring in a lot good players. And I do not believe they will be in 5A very long anyway. It's my understanding they pretty much have the numbers to be in 6A right now and that area just continues to grow rapidly.

 

It will be interesting to see how the county school board finally decides to do the redrawing of the district lines, that could hurt South Warren very badly. They've been putting it off for a couple of years because so many people are worried about it. Although they may still let in system players move between schools.

 

I too am nervous what will happen once Coach Wallace decides to leave. I hope it won't be for a long time, but he will eventually. I just hope it is years from now.
