September 6, 201610 yr Interesting study by 538 linking a decrease in arrests directly to the release of the McDonald tape. As a result gun violence has increased even more. New paperwork requirements are part of the issue. Gun Violence Spiked — And Arrests Declined — In Chicago Right After The Laquan McDonald Video Release | FiveThirtyEight
September 6, 201610 yr If I remember correctly wasn't one of BLM request to have their community police itself?? It sounds like they are getting a portion of what they wanted.... . Seems to be working out just fine. :banghead:
September 6, 201610 yr Curious to see if the trend continued. This was from April 11th prior to summer which typically has an increased crime rate.
September 6, 201610 yr To quote one of my very best Buckeye friends " people are their own worst enemy".

September 6, 201610 yr Author Curious to see if the trend continued. This was from April 11th prior to summer which typically has an increased crime rate. The video wasn't released until late November which is when 538 says the decrease in stops/arrests and the increase in violence started.
September 6, 201610 yr Author Put your PR hat/spokesperson hat on. You are in said role for the CPD. How do you respond the question "Why are you not making as many stops as you previously did?"
September 6, 201610 yr Put your PR hat/spokesperson hat on. You are in said role for the CPD. How do you respond the question "Why are you not making as many stops as you previously did?" Taking a different approach. The voices being heard of late have said they're clearly not happy with how policing was being done previously. With that said I think the increase in shootings indicates that a more laid back approach isn't the answer. We are open to suggestions
September 6, 201610 yr That's my sitting in the sauna having a hard time typing because I'm sweating short answer for you.

Now let me put the reporter hat on and ask a follow-up question. Is it just a coincidence that the decrease started at the same time the new paperwork requirements started?
September 6, 201610 yr Why would anyone be surprised at this data? More public outcry for less policing=Less policing. More paperwork= Less policing. Less policing=rise in crime rate. This is exactly the results you would expect. The real question is where do you go from here?
September 6, 201610 yr I am not saying that the reason for the decrease is because of more required paper work, there's no way for anybody to really know if that's the case. But man, if that were true, that would be a scary thought.
