Belfry seems well seated at the number one position, will anyone challenge them for that position? Is Corbin a strong number two? Does Lexington Catholic deserve the number three position? If not, who does? Who is in danger of dropping out of the Top 10? Who could possible move in?

I'll be honest. I'm kind of surprised Boyle County is still ranked.

Speaks to the lack of separation between #4 and, say, #13 in Class 3A. They're all just bunched up and no one has distinguished themselves.

Very true. 3A fell pretty quickly from last season. With Belfry being as good as they are this year that is a good and bad thing. :lol2:

I agree completely. I think Boyle was preseason ranked so high just because they are Boyle. 0-3 was always a possibility, but Boyle is a decisive 0-3.

I am also surprised Central is still rank so high. They too appear to be in a tailspin at the moment.

Agreed and agreed.

In both situations I think the names on their jerseys and the coaches on their sidelines have granted them some leniency and I get that.

Add to that, I don't believe anyone ranked 11th or worse would have fared any better (and likely much worse) against the schedules played by Boyle and Central, respectively.

... +1

Let's also not gloss over that two of Central's losses aren't exactly bad losses.

They took a ranked 6A Manual and the unanimous #2 3A team to the final possession.

At least a team from the west will make it to Bowling Green.

7 of the top 10 are from the west, but none of them are as good as Belfry.

Someone told me the other day they thought a freshman for Boyle, who is now out due to injury, was their best player. If that's the case, or really even close to being the case (and I don't know, just repeating what I was told), then I think that speaks volumes about where Boyle is right now.

The game Friday night against Anderson should tell us something about one of the programs.

He's not out. He was healthy last Friday.

He is the best player on Boyle County's team.

It doesn't speak volumes about Boyle County to me. It tells me how special he is and will be the next four years.

The game Friday night will tell us about 2016. It won't say anything about the programs. You better beat them both this year.

And that freshman's name is Reese Smith.

Yes, I knew his name, just wasn't sure I should throw it out there. I heard he sprained/tore something in his knee? Did I get some bad info?

When I said Friday nights game will tell us something about the programs, I meant what the teams have for this year. Both appear to be down.

And when a freshman is your best player (and I know Reese is a very fine player), unless he is Hershel Walker-esqe, I stand by my statement, that usually doesn't bode well for the team in the short term. And so far, at 0-3, I think that is showing.

No one close to Boyle County expected big things from Boyle County this year and if they did I respect their optimism. I'll be the same when basketball season gets here. 2017 is the year. Boyle County folks were hoping for the best and still are but the truth is that after reflection and time to sleep on it, no one is surprised. Preparation for 2017 is underway.
