John Hinckley to Begin Living Full-time in VA Beginning September 10

Featured Replies

The man who tried to assassinate President Ronald Reagan 35 years ago will leave a Washington psychiatric hospital to live full-time in Virginia on Sept. 10, his lawyer said Thursday.

A federal judge ruled in July that 61-year-old John Hinckley Jr. was no longer a danger to himself or others and could leave St. Elizabeths Hospital to live full-time at his mother's home in Williamsburg, Virginia. At the time, Judge Paul L. Friedman had ruled Hinckley could leave the hospital as soon as Aug. 5.

Would be kinda weird to have this guy move in next door.

Could make for some interesting conversations out in the backyard.

I'm not sure what to think. First, if he's clinically insane at 25, but cool at 61, well I'd like to know the chemistry behind that on a clinical level.

If he is perfectly fine as the doctors have said, I have no problem with him living next to me. If he's not fine, I still have no problem with him living next to mt ref. :)

Seriously, the guy did his time in the nut ward and apparently got well. Can't hold him any longer. He was found not guilty.

Maybe he finally just decided Jodie Foster wasn't everything she was cracked up to be.

Or he found out she liked chicks. He could have been rehabilitated if he'd just have had access to US magazine back in the day.

Will add a whole new dimension to Halloween for the neighborhood kids this year.

Let's hope we don't have a "told ya so" moment soon after he is out.

Yep, be interesting to find the judge liable in a suit.

When I read the title I thought we were talking about a VA Hospital and I was confused.

You don't cure mental illness, you treat it forever. Guess after all these years he is considered stabilized, but not cured. I would bet that of all mentally ill people who have committed crimes, he will be very closely watched. He probably will be harmless.

Well, this going to sound callous, but I'll power through it. Reagan's dead and Jodie Foster has no interest in men. I guess unless we figure out his current fixation, what danger is he?

Maybe he thinks he can get Jodie to switch teams?

I lean liberal, but I don't think he should be out into the mainstream of society. He tries to kill a President and dramatically changed the quality of life for James Brady. Leave him in the mental hospital/residence or low security prison.
