Rockcastle County 74 Bourbon County 6

Featured Replies

I believe that Rock has been one of the classiest programs, and winningest programs since the arrival of Tom Larkey. I know Coach Larkey and he would not embarrass or humilate a kid or team for any reason, but he can't help that he coaches his kids to play hard.

I certaintly agree with you on that. The ROCK has improved tremendlously overthe years and I think they stand the chance to go all the way and win a state title.

I can't wait til early in the playoffs when Rockcastle is down by 42 points at the half to somebody.

There's not a team in 3A that can put up 42 points on Rockcastle before the half...especially not early in the playoffs. I'm guessing you would be a Bourbon fan?

Somebody will make Rockcastle pay for pounding a team like that. Every five or six years they have a decent team and do this to teams.

Have you ever come out of the rock that your under? Rock is a very solid team, wins Class 3A region 4 just about every year for the past 5 or 6 years. To me the biggest shocker is to as why Rock would play Bourbon Co. knowing how bad they have been for the last couple of years? Was they forced to due to scheduling cause i am going to give them the benefit of the doubt.

Couple of questions and points:

- Where were you last week when Campbell Co beat them 70-0? Were you blasting Campbell County for that? They beat BC by 70 and Rock only beat BC by 68.

- Bourbon hasn't won a game in a few seasons. They have a first year coach who has his hands full in trying to rebuild the program. Rockcastle is an established program (state runnerup 2 times I believe in the past 10 years). The programs are on totally different levels.

- Coach Larkey took over a program in 1985 which was horrible and has made them into a contender year in and year out. For you to say that Rockcastle has a 'decent' team every 5-6 years means you either don't pay attention to HS football in Kentucky the past 15-20 years OR you are seeing them thru colored glasses.

- Larkey is a class act, always has been. He does not intentionally run up the score. The fact it that he has depth and his 2nd and 3rd stringers are solid players as well. He can't tell them to 'take a knee' on offense as that would be humiliating to Bourbon. He can't tell them to 'let them score' as that would be as well. The fact is Rock subbed from the 2nd quarter on and did not try to run the score up. But 6 INT's in the first half and 4 run back for TD's? How is that Rock's fault?

That may be the funniest thing I have ever heard ROCK has a GOOD team every year. Bourbon is just terrible. Bourbon should know better than to schedule someone like this!!

I never said it was 100% intentional. I just think it can be avoided by a few slight adjustments in play calling and defensive schemes. I don't know how bad Bourbon really is, but maybe they shouldn't even be on the schedule.

You never tell your kids to quit playing. When the subs are in their it is no different.

I applaude Bourbon for playing a better team. That is a step in trying to better youself. I am glad to see RC playing this kind of non-district schedule:D

Rock was put in this situation because someone bought out of their 2 year contract, and since this is the middle of 2 year contract they could not find anyone else to play. Should they just play 9 games? Bourbon could have scheduled one of three teams that just started football this year (Jackson, Gallatin, Clinton) But I guess you are right they are better off going to Rock and geting beat on the scoreboard and also having their kids beaten up physically.

I'd like to mention that not only were the sub in early but sometime in the

2nd, I believe, Rock declined a penalty when bourbon was on Rock's half of the feild. There is only so much you can do.

I didn,t know Bourbon had kids getting hurt. No one posted that. See ya in Nov (maybe:D )

I hate to see anyone implying that Coach Larkey's Rockcastle teams would ever intentionally run up the score to embarass another team. I know him personally and have for many years, and he is too much of a class act for that. This was just a matchup that looked as lopsided on the field as it did on paper. Bourbon will get better, this is only the new coaches first season (2nd game) and since they haven't won a game in a few seasons, ... they have nowhere to go but up.
