Dayton 14 Bellevue 13

Even though I don't like the outcome I want to say its nice to see the Greendevils have some success and hopefully build off of this game. These are classic grudge matches and I remember how heated the games can get. Emotions fly high but if Bellevue kids were refusing to shake hands then that needs to be addressed swiftly by Coach McMillan. There are some really steep bleachers at Gilligan Stadium that would be a good place to get those boys acquainted with if it were me.

I heard Bellevue coach did address it immediately. Seems like a class guy. I'm sure it was a rough loss for their kids. Feel bad for their kicker, who is really good actually.

There were a lot of tears of joy shed by the Dayton folks. Don't want to overstate the importance of a single win, but this one was significant. Now on to Pendleton county then to new Miami. Go Green!

Is the Dayton KICKER also their CENTER?

The center is the punter. One of the other lineman was kicking off. Not really the preferred method .

That's how small schools like Dayton and bellevue have been handling kicking for years. Throw a big body out there and toe bash it.

The announcer of the game said that Davis Field is the oldest high school football stadium currently being played in statewide. I knew it had to be up there, but didn't know it was the oldest.

Did Seth Chinn play for Dayton? I know he was injured last week.

Very happy for the Dayton football program

Yes, on a limited basis in the second half. Liked the little I got to see him play. The offense will get a nice upgrade if he's full go.

As far as the ending of the game goes, it made me think back to the first game between these two in the '94 season. The score during that game was 0-0 and went to OT. Bellevue scored first and missed the extra point. Dayton scored on their first play and won with the extra point. That was one of the more exciting games for sure. Bellevue went on to win the second game to advance to the playoffs and Dayton stayed home.

I for one am very familiar with those steep bleachers. But in my day (I feel old) Mr Marty Meyer was the only one that utilized them for their unintended purpose. And the track team was always better for it. That and those God aweful stadium laps!

Quite a few games have ended comparable to this one in one point fashion... I guess when you play 138 of em that'll happen.

The one that comes to mind for me was 06 in the mud pit that was Bellevues field where Dayton scored to tie it with less than a minute left only to shank the XP. Then after trading TDs in OT Bellevue went for 2 and ended up getting stopped giving the Greendevils a 1 point win that night as well.

Recent history doesn't show it, but there have certainly been some thrillers in the series...
