Very cool story, thanks for sharing, and congrats to the Morris family. :ylsuper:..........even though a couple of those title W's they got are against my Breds. :lol2:

Most opposition probably hopes that the next coach won't have the last name Morris. In all seriousness, very cool story. That's pretty awesome that Mayfield was rated as the best team in KY regardless of class in '78.

Are these balls you speak of solid gold or gold-plated? Who knew it took gold balls to be recognized as a great coach? It does make sense, though.

You get some argument from the younger fans as to Mayfield's greatest team ever but for those that were around back then its not even close. That 78 team is easily the greatest MF has ever produced and I don't see how that will ever change. It was stocked with kids who went on to play at the next level

This got me thinking, what other father and son duos have had success?

Stability! One of the most overlooked things for a football program. If you look at the best ones in the state, see how long their head coach and for the most part the entire coaching staffs have been at that school.

A couple families from West Kentucky come to mind. Joe Jaggers had great teams at Trigg Co and Ft Knox, won a lot of games everywhere he went, and Marty had success. Long time coach Fred Clayton (Caldwell and Christian Co) and Craig Clayton won a bunch of games at Hoptown.

Chuck Smith - Boyle County

Brandon Smith - South Warren

Although the son is just getting started, something tells me the sky is the limit.

The Morris' are winners..plain and simple!
