gchs_uk9 Posted August 22, 2016 Posted August 22, 2016 Two of the higher ranked teams in the respective classes face off in what should be a western Kentucky classic this weekend. Can Caldwell shore up some defensive deficiencies? Can Franklin-Simpson slow down the high powered Tiger offense?
Purple88 Posted August 22, 2016 Posted August 22, 2016 I am torn 50-50 on who to pick in this one. Ultimately I think Franklin will be a little stronger over the year, but Caldwell has the tools to win and they are at home. How healthy will Caldwell be might be the question.
fastaslightin Posted August 22, 2016 Posted August 22, 2016 macdon??? What are your thoughts? Can FS stay close?
macdon Posted August 23, 2016 Posted August 23, 2016 Stay close? Surely they can manage that. The 430 yards rushing against Portland is a bit deceiving. Portland isn't very good and 330 or so happened in the first half. I still don't know how to process all that. Downfield blocking is impressive and the backs seem to have the patience to let that happen. Everyone seems to get involved. Caldwell worked the FS defense over pretty good a year ago. This year's Caldwell offense isn't quite as explosive as last and FS appears to have improved considerably defensively. The Wildcats held Portland to under 65 total yards. To win FS needs to maintain possession and make Caldwell work for every yard. Avoid giving up the big plays. Still waiting to see a passing game that earns some respect from FS. If that doesn't happen we will soon see eleven in the box.
Bud_Kilmer Posted August 23, 2016 Posted August 23, 2016 Two solid clubs this year. Caldwell still has an impressive team this year and I expect them to get the home win 28-21. Game of the week on the western half of the state.
Adopted Purple Posted August 23, 2016 Posted August 23, 2016 I think Franklin Simpson wins this game. The Wildcats returned the bulk of their starters from last year and I think they are much better than last year. If their passing game ever developes, they can play with anybody. 28-21 Franklin Simpson

They also have receivers that can catch the ball.
FSfan Posted August 24, 2016 Posted August 24, 2016 Hard to say how good FS is yet. Muhlenberg in the scrimmage and Portland didn't fare well at all against FS. The improvement of the line play on both sides and better tackling on defense have really caught my attention. Defense seems to be playing more aggressively, not lining up the corners 10 yards off the line as they have done so many times in recent years. More emphasis on the passing game is nice but it hasn't produced a whole lot yet. Pass protection seems to be greatly improved this year. Most teams FS will play can be beaten by FS ground game alone, but Caldwell is not one of those teams. I expect a high-scoring game, and I think this year not only will FS keep up with Caldwell but I predict an FS win 41-28.
tigerspride Posted August 24, 2016 Posted August 24, 2016 It should be a close game, I'm going with Caldwell County because they were still in the game late against County, even out gaining them in yards until two costly mistakes in the fourth quarter took them out of it. That along with the fact that Caldwell's best back didn't play in that game and the Tigers still gave the Colonels all they wanted bodes well and being at home is an advantage.
