How did that happen? Did Kentucky start playing sanctioned high school football before a lot of other states?

 

In some areas, yes. Male and Manual have been facing off since the 1880s I believe. When we had a list of the winningest programs in Kentucky, there were a number of schools (usually independent city schools) that had been around for 100 years or at least close to it. Here locally, Bardstown HS celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2008.
