August 15, 201610 yr The chief said the officers who fired at the vehicle violated policy. He will not be able to use this as a defense for firing at the deceased. Maybe not for keeping his job, but not sure what Illinois law is regarding this. Usually it says would a reasonable person have acted in the same manner. Don't know if Illinois has other laws regarding LEO's.
August 15, 201610 yr There's got to be someone who can create a weapon that officers can fire and stun or immobilize a person instead of inflicting deadly harm. Why hasn't this been created? Basically fire a bullet that does something electrically to a person upon impact? That's a great idea. I bet we could get a grant and do a gun exchange program with all of the non-law abiding citizens that illegally possess firearms. Give them the same type of electric bullet gun the LEOs are getting. That way it's a less lethal but level playing field for the cops and the crooks. Yea I think this could get some traction..........

It's not like the police were exchanging bean bag rounds for this guys live rounds. They received a call of a possible attempted suicide at a hotel. They show up and the guy shoots through the door. SWAT is called and standoff ensues. The police eventually used a bean bag round. So it's not like this guy charged out of the hotel shooting at cops and they used a bean bag instead of live rounds.

However, all I was saying was that there is an example of an officer or officers using non-lethal force which a poster asked about. Plus it's pertinent to this case. My point is there is a huge difference in reacting in the heat of the moment versus being able to sit back take some time to plan a response. Your previous post made it sound like it was a gun fight and the police choose non lethal.

It comes off as you trying to show an example of non lethal being used in reposes to lethal. of course there are examples of non lethal. Tasers, pepper spray, bean bags, ect... Police use these every day.
