My take from the first episode is they are trying to make me have some kind of empathy towards these guys who to me so far show very little respect to their superiors. If you are getting a second chance at least pretend to repsct your opportunity. I believe this goes on at all schools at all levels and it drives me just as crazy.

I'm betting that even what they showed is tame compared to what happens at some schools.

 

One scene that stuck with me was when the recruiter asked the kid what it would take to get him to come to their school and the made a reference to not doing it in front of the cameras. The recruiter said cameras or no cameras we aren't breaking NCAA rules.

What surprised me (not really, but kind of) was when Ollie tweeted SEMO and said he was better than them. That's when I realized some of those kids really just aren't very smart. He was getting no looks and told the only school at the time showing interest that he was too good.

Grades I would assume. He didn't know he was going to graduate until the last day of the semester.

I loved the head coach. It cracked me up when he would go off on his players firing out the F bomb constantly.

These guys need to go and learn a trade instead of trying to get back to a University to play football.

So I've decided to finish the series. I just finished episode four. While i totally agree that EMCC was getting cheap shot after cheap shot, and the official charting plays was out of line, the HC can't be dropping F Bombs on an official. The official working the sideline should've been taking care of his sideline not the other guy.

Finishing episode two. Really interesting. Sort of how I thought a program like that would be, but also can't believe they can't keep their grades up with what seems like a full-time babysitter helping them. Also surprised they talked so candidly about that on camera.

Finished all of it and thought it was a great documentary.

 

I would love to pull back the curtain at a major program and see what it's like, especially with academics. Some of these kids were barely staying eligible with basic classes at a community college with someone holding their hand through it and with teachers giving them constant breaks.

 

D.J. Law originally signed with Ole Miss and they said they'd "overlook" his high school academic issues. How would he have managed to stay eligible there? (I'm betting he would have too.)

 

It'll be interesting seeing John Franklin at Auburn this fall and Law at UAB. I'm surprised Wyatt didn't get offered anywhere, but I'm betting he wasn't interested in leaving Mississippi. Some kids are going to have a white hot flag football team at Miss State this fall. :lol2:

Being floated around Twitter that the back up QB started practice with Mississippi State today.

Franklin is battling Sean White for the starting gig at AU.

New QB is the kid from FSU who hit the girl at a bar and was dismissed.

I'm now on the last episode. What I find amazing is that several that have posted on here seem amazed at the attitude/actions of the kids. From what many posted I thought when I finally tuned in I would find all sorts of wild things. Heck, I deal with similar and even worse with kids I have coached over the years at the little Christian basketball organization I stared several years ago. Absolutely none of this surprises me...and maybe it should, but unfortunately I see this very type of thing every year in just the small sampling I have. Absolute apathy towards school, even life in general sometimes. Horrible decision making. Bad home life/past. No life plan whatsoever. Heck, at least most of these guys seem excited about football and at least seem to work hard at it...I can't even get that a lot of the time out of some of my kids. It's enough to make you pull your hair out.

 

With that, Coach needs to dial it back a few notches in my opinion. You can be a hard butt and a disciplinarian without all the stuff he does. I find him crossing the line of professionalism myself.

 

Unfortunately some of those kids aren't as good as they think they are. But then again that's not unusual either.
