With you Bengal. I could only imagine Texas' education system without answering to the Feds.

So individual states should be able to allow their children to grow up in crummy schools, should they choose? That kind of thinking set certain parts of this state way behind the 8-ball, and they're still struggling to catch up. Tennessee too.

I get where your argument is coming from, philosophically, but history shows it doesn't work. Some states will invariably sacrifice education for roads (like Tennessee, historically) or other expenditures. Certain states are fine with the serfs being dumb and malleable.

That's a plank out of the Dem platform.

The Feds should have no power over education. They blackmail local governments with our tax dollars. Education should be a local issue.
By local do you mean state or actual local school districts?

Isn't that pretty much already being controlled by the teacher unions, etc.; resulting in virtually no accountability and HS grads who can barely read & write in many cases??

That's up to the citizens to vote for leaders to have the school system they want. I don't like the federal government giving a one size fits all aproach.

Combination of both.

Hogwash, Mr. Anti-Union. So is there a better way of painting the hardcore libertarian need to defund education? Do you think we should be a stupider country? Or is it only that the ones who can afford it should be educated?

Conservatives want nothing more than to turn the whole education process to the states. I have zero faith in the states doing what's right by our children, given certain states' track record toward doing the absolute worst thing in terms of doing right by the bulk of their people.

I didn't see the All of the Above choice

So you have absolute faith in "states' rights?" Just to remind you, that sort of justification is why our country has uncompromising guilt over slavery.

The old term "mongrelization of the races" springs to mind.

It appears that in your world, administrators at the federal level are good & smart, while administrators at the state & local level are bad & ignorant.

THAT is the true Hogwash.

THIS

Combination of both.

I could possibly agree with states having the ability to do so, but I have horror stories of dealing with a local board of education. It stems from local officials not having the background in various disciplines, resulting in them not understanding curriculum. "We didn't have to learn that when I was in school, so kids now don't need it either."

To end slavery they passed an ammendment . There is no power the Federal government has to control education. So the work around was a complete manipulation of the system, by black mailing states with its citizens tax dollars. I trust local governments much more to do what's right for their kids than the federal government one size fits all approach.

Why would you care how a school district a thousand miles away teaches it students ? Why is that any of your business ?
