July 29, 201610 yr Hey, if they feel it should be disregarded for guns, it can be disregarded to protect the flag. I'm sorry, but if you hate the US enough to burn the flag, maybe the US isn't the place for you. Both are amendments to our constitution, the first two. To me, both are equally important and were evidently important to our founders.
July 29, 201610 yr Well, right you can do what you want with your own property. JMO, but the vast majority of the clowns burning flags during protests aren't burning their own property. I guess that I had never really thought of it. Are you thinking that they are taking them off public buildings? If so, yeah, they have absolutely no right to do that.
July 29, 201610 yr I guess that I had never really thought of it. Are you thinking that they are taking them off public buildings? If so, yeah, they have absolutely no right to do that. That's my assumption. I could be completely off base, but those doing it don't strike me as the type to go buy something to simply burn it. :idunno:

July 29, 201610 yr I'm aware I didn't mean for that to sound condescending. You just mentioned earlier that the US needs to get back to fundamentals. I would consider the Constitution to be our fundamentals.

My point was that a lot of the folks who want to take guns away regardless of the 2nd amendment are going to be a lot of the same people who are going to cite the first amendment when it comes to burning the flag. Too many want to have their cake and eat it too...

Take away or modify the 1st, but keep the second? Luckily for me, I can exercise both my 1st and 2nd amendment rights. I don't practice the 2nd one daily (can't carry my gun at work) but I do indeed practice my 1st daily!
July 29, 201610 yr I get disgusted and very angry when I see a flag disrespected. However, I happen to agree that it should be protected free speech with no penalties. At least from the government. On a personal level if I had staff that I found out had burned a flag, they're gone. I agree with every word of this.
July 29, 201610 yr Anyway, back to the OP. Police have a Hispanic man in custody - in critical condition at local hospital. They are currently in a standoff at a home possibly with a 2nd potential suspect. 2nd officer shot is in critical condition but expected to survive. Officers were wearing body cameras so hopefully those give some insight as to what happened.

July 29, 201610 yr I agree it's disgusting, but treason? I mean, that's punishable by death. Little extreme, don't ya think? Not sure, but I think the last time someone(American) was put to death for treason were the Rosenbergs in 1953.
July 29, 201610 yr I don't know, wouldn't it be some sort of destruction of property charge? They can be charged with starting a fire without a permit.
July 29, 201610 yr The war on LEO has got to stop. No respect for those enforcing our laws is a step towards anarchy.
July 29, 201610 yr As much as I hate it , it is protected speech, the flag burning I mean. But I wouldn't be mad at LEO who turned a blind eye to the vets who react to such actions.
