Western Kentucky Power Rankings Discussion

7 on 7 is hybrid football. It is not the game we love on Friday night and comparisions between the 2 are useless. However, for QBs and WR/RBs it is a useful tool to establish chemistry, timing and to give the younger guys a chance to learn the playbook under fire. It is also good to get you in shape for the season. But that's about it.

Agree with most of what you say. Over the summer in club 7-7 I saw WRs improve their technique in getting off the line in press coverage and route running. DBs improve their technique's in different types of coverage. QB's improve their throwing and ball placement. For individual skills and techniques it can be a valuable tool. One kid I saw vastly improve his skills and techniques as a WR in club 7-7 and it showed in his first HS 7-7. No doubt in my mind it will carry over to Friday nights. So there is some value in playing 7-7. Once you get to the HS teams playing I agree timing, chemistry and improving route running are very valuable to an offenses success. Defenses can improve in technique and communication. Is it the same as Friday nights -- not even close. But it can serve a purpose!

We're on the same page here FBC! My real question is, are teams doing 7 on 7 to get better technically or are they doing 7 on 7 to simply say they are doing it to keep up or be ahead of their local competition?

Male was pretty good at 7on7 last year....

You are right we agree on much. But thats a tough call 88 on the why do it. That would be trying to get into the head of the HC. Each HC is different but I believe they would not waste time on something like 7-7 without a purpose toward winning on Friday nights. I could be wrong as I have been before!

What does Caldwell have that puts them in the top 10? I know they've lost a lot the last 2 years. I don't know much about this year's team obviously.

Caldwell has 9 starters back on defense with 2 really good corners. The Riley brothers are very talented. QB is back and he played very well last season. Question mark will be offensive line where they lost some good players.. I don't think you will see a drop off they have young talent sophomore's who can really play.

Hoptown will probably go 9-1 but that's because of a weak schedule..... I think your list is pretty darn accurate.

Hoptown has a tough opening game with Graves County..don't count Graves out..

Caldwell has #'s. that's what they have. They don't have a cain or sendelar but they've got 80-90 kids in their program. They'll do as they always do. Beat up on teams that they have more talent than, struggle against teams that are as talented or more talented.

The mumme system creates great one on one matchups. If you've got the better athletes? you murder people, if not, you struggle.

Caldwell should be very good.

This was a team that was 3 points away from being undefeated in the regular season (lost to Christian County by 2 and Mayfield by 1). If anything was their weakness last year it was their Defense... but they return nearly everyone and should be improved.

On Offense you start with Shane Burns and the Riley kid. That's over 4000 offensive yards returning.

Not sure it will be as tough for Hoptown as it will be for Graves. I hope Graves does well this year but it looks like a 5-5 year. As Graves always says every year, they are young this year.

Hoptown will be hard to defend due to their speed and offensive style, but I just feel something with this group of Eagles. I think Graves shocks a lot of people this season. Graves 35-Hoptown 14
