Can Rose Hill build a HIGH SCHOOL football program?

Featured Replies

They wouldn't play all road games would they? I would think the Fairview's field might be a possibility on Saturday nights.

I agree that fairview's field may be a possibility but it will take a few years before it gets to the point of playing on the varsity level. They may have to play a lot of road games with jr. high and eventually j.v. untill they can get something worked out.

Football takes money, feeders and commitment. Smart starting at Middle school level and growing feeder. More than enough money at RH. Just a matter of commitment.

It can be done , comes down to the will of the parents , coaches and admin at Rose Hill. If I was at Rose Hill , I would do everything but football at least for awhile longer.

How come? Seriously, I'm just interested and would like your imput.

Isn't Rose Hill afraid of robbing Peter to pay Paul? In a small school setting that already offers several fall activities, won't many of those participants be lost to football? I just don't know if small schools can reallistically support that many different programs. Now if there were to be a significant increase in male student enrollment it would be a different story.

I too went to a small school and we all played every sport. Ran track in baseball season and played on the golf team(if that's what you call what we were doing). Can see where the difficulty will lie with regards to enrollment, however, if RH has kids that are able to participate, let's say in soccer and football, why not do both as time allows. These are the quandries at small schools. Can be done though!IMO

Where would Rose Hill play their games if they eventually play football on the high school level?

Maybe they could lease Putnam and play on Saturdays.

Ok, maybe not.

You are exactly right spindoc, where a small school may run in to trouble with this is when (and I know of instances) coaches of cetain teams try and talk their athletes in their sport out of participating in other sports. This takes away from the numbers and talent that another team in the school could have not to mention imo the selfishness of a coach that would do this. Small schools their athletes on the fields, court, etc in all areas if the kid wants to play. Rose Hill does have small numbers but imo this can be worked out. The old saying "where there is a will, there is a way" comes into play here and it cetainly seems that there is a will for football at Rose Hill.

Who is coaching and leading the pack at Rose Hill?

That is one advantage of a small school. It allows the athletes to play several sports. Some small colleges allow the same as well. I know one that plays football & is on the Spring track team along. It can be done if the kid is willing to make the sacrifice.

There are somethings in the works. Not far enough along to really comment. We do play home soccor games now and a soccor/football field arrangement is another possibility. If it doesn't workout it won't be to a lack of effort.

Ever heard of a Non-profit company called Kentucky Youth Development Sports? Might want to check with them. They are new to the area and are in the process of starting a program for the youth in the Greenup- Boyd- Carter area.

Never heard of them. Thanks for the info. :thumb:

Don't start on the coaches, people get defensive. Couldn't resist C'Ville and Oldrambler.

I think you guys really are brothers!!!!!

Man I had the opportunity and I had to take the shot. I would be honored to be considered his brother, however I will never fish with him again unless it is from the bank of a chartered boat.

If those kids attend high school at Rose Hill and want to play football, why not make the effort. When Buttermaker's kids were in the Astrodome the crowd chanted "Let them play, let them play!" I think it will be difficult to do but not impossible. Maybe they could hook up with KCU and play their home games in a brand new stadium on Friday instead of Saturday. Who knows.
