Can Rose Hill build a HIGH SCHOOL football program?

Featured Replies

Verity is Ashland. Verity is Ashland's middle school. The thread, to be relevant to most BGPers, should have been titled "Rose Hill 22, Ashland 0" and should have remained in the football forum. Most, but certainly not all, of the damage was done by players who reside in the Ashland district. Of course, those players also reside in the Rose Hill district. For obvious reasons, the two teams will not meet later in the season.

When were the two schools involved schedules made out? Was it before this game or still undecided?

In fairness I would say that Ashland's schedule was probably completed before Rose Hill began scheduling.

I guess that could be one of the obvious reasons. Scheduling? I realize it must have been difficult to arrange a schedule at such a late date. Kudos to the Rose Hill staff for completing it. I even think I saw a thread on this board asking for games. Don't remember if there was any response. Even if there is no game scheduled in the future, do you feel like one is owed?

Also in fairness to Ashland, I know the guy who scheduled RH's games and he didn't call Verity. So, I hope that people aren't hacking on Ashland for not scheduling them, they weren't called. They were presumed to have a full schedule at the late date that RH scheduling occurred. I'm thankful that Boyd placed the 2 together in their grid however to give the kids the chance to play.

I agree doc, personally I say "Let them play" Most need to keep in mind that up until this point Rose Hill has never had a football team and still have never fielded an 8th grade football team. This could create a problem for them if trying to schedule games next year.

How did Rose Hill do at Milton, WV on Thursday night? I understand that they were expecting much tougher competition than they got from their first opponent.

Nice slam.....:thumb:   But be careful, sometimes those slams can come back to bite ya.....

Yes Rose Hill won the game convincingly and could have scored more if not for a little 'game talk' by the coaches, but I know Verity's coach was playing all players and using this game as a scrimmage. And having seen how Rose Hill's coaches have coached games in other leagues there was no doubt what the outcome of this game would be. :sssh:

Oh, I see now. I assumed that Rose Hill beat Ashland because they scored more points. After all the blowing by Ashland people before the scrimmage, I assumed that Ashland would play to win. Now, of course, I am to believe that Ashland merely treated it like an insignificant scrimmage and that Ashland wasn't really there trying to win. Since the mere mention of Rose Hill among that group of middle school parents tends to cause a renting of clothes and a gnashing of teeth, I am somewhat surprised. Could this possibly mean that we will see Ashland middle school teams actually show a willingness to schedule Rose Hill in football and basketball and to play with no "technicalities" up their sleeves? That would be nice.

Having seen the players on both teams, there was no doubt what the outcome would be.

Scooterbob, Milton had a tough team. I don't know how old they were, but it is safe to say they had more than one 8th grader. The format was that each team started on their own twenty and ran ten plays. They each ran I think four series. The last series was from the the other teams 20 yard line. They only had five plays each here. Milton scored twice on two long runs. Rose Hill scored twice on long drives. During the red zone drill Rose Hill scored two touchdowns and Milton scored none. Total Rose Hill four touchdowns, Milton 2.

Good performance by Rose Hill against a well coached Milton team.

If they can keep this up and gain some more players they will be ready for a varsity schedule in a few years.

Thank you for the information, Uncle Jed. I believe that if Rose Hill can experience success in their maiden attempt at football, the future will bring and influx of students and a high school varsity team.

I feel sure that Milton came with the intention of scoring more points than Rose Hill.

Since OJ , anything Rosehill does brings the microscope ... why is this ?

RH is a little Christian school with the best of intentions , right ?

It was my opinion that it was the Verity coach that offerred up the obscene comment at the end of play that you are referring to. And Yes Rose Hill could have added another score at the end, but chose not to. Frankly, I thought that showed some class, and frankly, was a notice that they could have scored again. I was very impressed with the Rose Hill crowd which bodes well for support of a future in football. I'm not sure what coaches you're talking about, but if you're referring to coaching to win games, IS there another way to coach? These kids are in the 7th grade, this ain't JFL anymore!

Was there a thread on this game before it was played or was the blowing that you refer to done in person? If it was a thread could you help me out and tell me where it is?
