Internet Irritations

Featured Replies

There are a couple things about today's internet that really irritate the heck out of me:

1. Videos - I hate it when you go to a link to check out a story and a video automatically starts rolling. It is even worse when there is nothing but a video in the link. I prefer to read information and I never watch those videos. If it is a video only link, I just go ahead and close it out without even watching.

2. Slideshows - I know they probably generate more clicks and ad revenue, but I refuse to watch slideshows. Just put the info in one link and let me read it. I don't want to click for each page. This is why bleacherreport.com is perhaps my most hated website. I never go to that site any more because everything they do is a slideshow.

3. Headline Hype - Every story is incredible!, amazing!, unbelievable!, etc!, etc!. Whatever you are getting ready to click and read never lives up to the hype. Half the time it isn't even that interesting, but that headline writer looking for clicks sure thinks it is SHOCKING!

What internet pet peeves do you have?

Count me in on the slideshow thing. Hate 'em.

Those autostart videos chap my backside. Whoever came up with that idea, as well as the wrap-around half-page ads fronting many newspapers these days, has earned a special place in Hell.

When the page jumps as you are clicking on what you want and end up somewhere else on an advertisement.

Those late jumps also get me. Ugh.

I have never watched a news video that came with no actual typed story. Let me read it first and then I'll decide if I want to watch the video. I've noticed WLWT is getting increasingly bad with this.

LOL

On a serious note, I hate all of the things already mentioned. I don't mind advertising on websites because I know that's how folks make money...but I don't like forced advertising (autoplay videos, popups, etc.).
