This is true but not the only one that had D1 looks. I have said it before, with girls, there are times when you can't always judge their talent on whether they dicided to go D1 or not. Girls weigh in a lot of other things when choosing a school, unless they are just totally sold on playing D1. Some girls are not sold on it and can get just as much money as D1 kid without playing D1.

Where does the money come from for these scholarships??

Sure, I can answer it. I'd be happy to meet with you and discuss. You must be pretty close to the program since you know that stat. So it shouldn't be hard to set up some time with me.

I love Gabbard and she has a great future at 2b. She's a freshman, isn't she? I'd say the one of the stats she couldn't overcome for this vote is senior leadership; the Birds were loaded with strong ones this year.

Association dues & Umpires Association donate money for one scholarship the past 2 years from proceeds from the Jr/Sr All Star game.

3) I don't know Ellis' full story but I do know her and she is an outstanding person and athlete. It is awesome that she was honored and I hope we get to hear Roddy's statement. Congrats El!

The rules outlined by @Lawnboy13 look very reasonable and fair to produce a quality POY, 1st Team, 2nd Team and Honorable Mention. Hats off to them and congratulations to all the nominees.

 

But it takes coaches who are involved and pay attention to make it work and make it meaningful. Div II was the most glaring mistake. How can a player who didn't really play defense, didn't lead her own team (much less the whole area) in AVG, RBI, 2B, or 3B, win POY? Her own coach alluded (in an earlier thread) that coaches should look at both a players offense and defense effect on the game. That is unfortunate that the coaches didn't pay attention.

 

But I guess we should have all taken @Four King Crazy words of wisdom to heart:

The sad thing is that you guys have evidently forget one thing! It's a popularity contest Not a best player award! First the vote is taken way before the seasons midway point! Second all the coaches don't take it serious (the weekly standing prove that) even if they wanted too they don't get to see all the players and then most would still vote to get certain kids notarity and/or they hold grudges against others!

It seems as though the adults care more about these awards than the kids...or they are trying to ruin it for the kids. Not sure which it is.

The purpose of my post was not to bash on any High School athlete(s) or take anything away from the organizers of this event!

My other two cents on this and I believe this would put an end to all this about who plays with the voting and remove any doubt of impropriety. Just publish the votes. As it was stated at the event, each coach assigns a number to the players 19 thru 1 and the rest are honorable mention in the coaches eyes. Who ever receives the most points is POY. It's been mentioned to drop the highest and the lowest score and that could help but if the votes were published and a Maddy Moran type player received a 1 or 0, it's pretty obvious that coach has an issue with that player for whatever reason or wanted to lower Maddys total to give their kid a better chance. If coaches feel that their votes were the best based on what they know, they shouldn't have an issue with publishing them.
