I just don't think his numbers are good enough as is. 1500 hits. .300 avg. 125 HR, 125 SB. Defensively he's already there.

May 18, 201610 yr The ones I see as locks are Cabrera, Pujols, Ichiro. Ortiz is likely and will almost surely get in because of playing in Boston. But compare his numbers to Fred McGriff. That are almost identical and McGriff got 21% of the HOF vote last year. A-Rod ..if they open the steroids gates he obviously becomes a lock. I vote for Bonds before I vote for A-Rod if that happens but A-Rod is in. Right now, I don't think he is in because of the steroids use. Beltran is interesting. His numbers compare to Torii Hunter's in a lot of ways and no one is promoting Hunter as HOF. Jim Edmonds is not far behind and is already off the HOF ballot. Or look at the Tim Raines HOF journey. Andre Dawson is very similar to Beltran and he is in. If Beltran gets in, it will be a late ballot. I lean towards him getting in though. Beltre ... I see a lot of the same issues I just discussed above on Beltran. I am really on the fence on him but I think he is just short of getting in. No, changed my mind. He has a lot of RBI's and that will get him over the hump. Also, over 2800 hits for Beltre. I think he is in. No starting pitchers are anywhere near HOF status. If Kershaw can have another 5 great years, he is in but who knows with a pitcher and the potential for arm trouble. No one else is HOF or close enough for me to say they are. The thing that will probably get Papi in is his role in winning that first World Series. I know we aren't supposed to consider the actual voters, but they're writers. They like the guys who gave them a lot of material. Papi fits the description, whereas Martinez has three ALCS appearances and nothing to show for it.

The other thing that's going to hurt Papi is the association with PED's. If the voters stay consistent, it will probably add a few years to his wait to get in.
