Yep. There was about a 5-6 year stretch where Santana was the most dominate pitcher in the game. Lead the league in ERA 3 times, was 1 or 2 in K's five straight years, and won 2 CY Youngs. Sabathia has had a fantastic career, but I don't feel like he was ever the dominate pitcher that Santana was. He probably should've been on my 50/50 list though.

Sabathia has had a fantastic career, but I don't feel like he was ever the dominate pitcher that Santana was. He probably should've been on my 50/50 list though. Santana was great for a period. But I don't think he had a good enough career outside of his 5 year run. He got sort of a late start, and fell off rapidly. And even during his this period he only won more than 16 games twice. I know wins are an overrated stat, but his numbers don't scream HOF to me. Pitchers are a tough call right now for me. Guys aren't and likely will never accumulate the numbers we associated with greatness in years past because they aren't pitching as many games. We may never see another 300 game winner. I think our standards and "golden ticket" numbers will be much different in the future, but until we know what those numbers are, guys like Santana may have to wait a long time to get in.
