Lice issue at Beechwood Elementary

At the risk of "embarrassing" myself at this thing that just isn't talked about, I would like to take a moment to make a public service announcement to Beechwood families with elementary age kids. Please check them for lice. We have had it in our house and it is beyond horrible. Now I just got a letter that someone else at school has it. It's out there people. Obviously, other people have it because it keeps getting passed around but no one wants to talk about it. I used to think it was only people that weren't clean who got it but that is wrong. I promise we are very clean people and we still got it. When you have someone who has really long hair and lots of it, it is a nightmare!!! You have to be on it every day. You must check your child's head every day for a week or two. You must use the special shampoo (or other more organic methods) and after (I mean like the next day) if you still see live lice you must try something else. They are probably resistant to what you used. You may have to get a prescription from your doctor and that can be expensive (it was for us). You must comb through your child's hair a little at a time and pull out all the nits. You have to do this every day until you do not see them anymore. They are tiny and hard to see. They are sometimes a tear drop shaped thing tightly attached to the hair shaft. Nothing is going to get the nits out for you. I don't care what it says on the box. You have to do this or the whole process starts over when the nits hatch again. You have to wash all sheets, pillows, everything in hot and put in dryer or put in a plastic bag for 2 weeks. I am a crazy person after dealing with this which is probably why I am putting it on social media. It's a huge pain but you have to do all this to get rid of it. If you need help trying to figure out if someone in your house has it, I will help you. If you haven't had to deal with this, consider yourself lucky! Also, you might want to put your girls' hair in braids or a bun and hairspray it when she goes to school to protect her from getting it! Ok, PSA over.

In my experience it was the clean people that mostly likely made the best hosts. The dirty ones are too greasy. If I am wrong please correct me. And check your kids if they go to Beechwood.

Fun fact....lice prefer clean heads. They don't tend to go after less-hygienic scalps.

If your kid comes home from school with lice, he's the clean one.

I've got several friends with young kids who've gotten lice recently, none of which go to Beechwood.

My daughter had lice when she was 7 or 8, and it was a nightmare. Took two weeks to get rid of them. And it took longer than that to get rid of that itchy feeling that there had been lice in the house.

Lice have white privilege.

Lice lives matter.

Santa said, now lice away, lice away, lice away all.

Lice>Mice

Licearoni, the San Francisco treat.

Drink a Bud Lice or Natural Lice.

Have a lice day.

I assume shaving your head is an effective way to treat lice?

Doesn't get it out of your bedding, hats, clothing etc. A shaved head is also not a real good look for most girls. But that was the first thing we did to our boys when our daughter got lice.

Lice at Beechwood is not news. When my kids were there, there was an outbreak almost every year. I would bet most schools do

Unfortunately it's not limited to Beechwood. My daughter caught it when she was in elementary school. Younger kids really have no concept and will share things/rub heads/put their heads where others have been, etc.

You just have to be diligent and check for them.

Most every school has issues with this at some point, especially elementary schools.
