I hope coach Nevels has a good year.

Going to be tough to better last year's 4-7 record, three of those wins against small schools Walton-Verona, Bellevue and Newport. The Bulldogs were handed a 41-0 loss at Johnson Central in 4A playoff game. Losing leading rusher Andrew Arnold is bad news for Bulldogs. Arnold rushed for over 1,000 years as a senior. Holmes must replace 11 seniors, among them was quarterback Desean Brumfield. 2nd-leading rusher Salih Abdullah is back for his senior year after going for 500+ yards as a junior. All in all, best case for young Bulldogs is 3-4 wins. Numbers must improve for Holmes to compete in 4A after going 1-4 in regional games last season.

It is all about getting the athletes on the field. When they get 40-50 players on the sidelines then they will start competing again. They have the athletes. I counted 26 players total in a game that i watched last year.

This is the problem. When I played football at Holmes back in the '70s, we always had at least 50 players on the varsity of sophomores, juniors and seniors. We actually had freshman team with over 30 players when I was a junior. I don't know what has happened to the interest and numbers. Holmes loses 11 seniors from that 26 total you mentioned. Not a good sign. Luckily we play Newport (17 players as of last month) and Bellevue (19 players as of last month). Those may be our only wins this season.

Holmes may be playing on the road this year. Plans are in place I was told to start construction on a new field.

Not sure where that info came from but I live near Gilligan Stadium and they have much closer to 30 players currently.

How many of those close to 30 are freshmen? I meant varsity only players. And the 19 was last month, they could have more at this point.

If Bellevue has 30 players when they play Holmes, my Bulldogs could be in big trouble. I don't expect more than 30-35 on the field for Holmes this season. Numbers will be a problem.

From what I have heard they are actually struggling for freshman numbers as many are opting to play their final year of youth league ball instead of making the jump to varsity so the 30 would be mostly soph and up.

How many is "many"? Usually there aren't more than a handful of kids that are eligible to play in the NKYFL as a freshman. I get that even 4 or 5 make a big difference in a small pool of kids, but even if a freshman is eligible to play in the NKYFL, they rarely do. And the NKYFL Senior division (at least what's left of it) is a big step back from Freshman football.

Well last I heard they only has 2-3 freshman playing varsity. I know of at least 4 that said they were staying down for NKYFL. The appeal for them is that the Bellevue Tigers Youth purchases any player that plays every stage of their youth career as a Tiger their High School Letter Jacket. I'm not sure if that is why they are choosing to play down or not but I'm sure it helps the NKYFLs case.

Are we talking Bellevue is struggling for numbers or Holmes?? This is a Holmes thread...

Is this confirmed? I heard they were suppose to start early June and that didn't happen so I heard they were going to wait until after season to start something.

It seems Holmes will start Construction on the new filed sometimes in September, just got my schedule and most of there home games will be played at Lloyd, teams such as Newport was scheduled at home will be played at Newport, also Holmes has around 40 players at this time practicing.
